Should this Mistborn Character Be a Woman? A Critical Analysis

Ham: The original. An inspired choice that could easily and immediately be ruined if she lacks beefiness and/or is made straight. Despite this danger, an easy 9/10

Dox: A reasonable choice, if somewhat bland. 6/10

Kelsier: Ohhhh my god she would be so hot. Ohhhh my goddddd 15/10

Spook: Would amplify existing parallels with Vin. We need more representation in the media for female pseudoreligious figures driven to the edge of madness. 10/10

Sazed: We've seen enough "timid character reveals inner strength" arcs for women. Points for female god. 3/10

Clubs: Grouchy old woman. Hell yeah. 8/10

Breeze: Opens the door for old woman yuri with Clubs, but ultimately only makes sense with access to the privileges of a male aristocrat. 2/10

I understand why i’ve seen people posting that they are worried about the stormlight archive apple tv adaptation whitewashing what is canonically a 99% asian cast. but also Henry Cavill litterally approached Brandon Sanderson and outright asked to be Kaladin. And Brandon said no, you’re white and old. like the concern is very very real but it seems Brandon has a lot of creative control so hopefully he pulls through.

renarin kholin is perfect autism representation, not because of anything he does, but because literally every other pov character when describing him goes This guy's vibes are totally off, what a freak for absolutely no reason. none of them know why their SKETCHY WEIRD GUY alarm is blaring, they just know that it is. and that's what it's like being autistic. that is exactly what it's like.

jasnah is so autistic it hurts. and i hurt for her. but ALSO, she's something fascinating: an autistic character who outwardly appears to conform to every stereotype of the male autistic savant/asshole. why is that so fascinating? because she's a woman. and furthermore, though she initially appears to conform to said stereotypes, she quickly reveals herself to have a far more layered and nuanced personality. she clearly receives undeserved abuse from uhhh just about everyone because of the assumptions they make about her - blunt, spiky, uncomfortable - demeanour and ways of communicating. she's autisms georg, but she's a fully realised autistic character as well, and i just think that's beautiful.

Kaladin having the worst time anybody's ever had on top of regular depression on top of PTSD on top of his dad being disappointed in him for not going to med school. i dont think kaladin and adolin are into each other, i dont ship them, like those are friends, but i do believe deep within my soul that for a solid week after the wor duel adolin was just totally in love. he was seeing stars. part of it was definitely the head trauma. part of it was the adrenaline. part of it was that kaladin stormblessed is just Like That. but i figure on around day 10 of his self-imposed prison sentence it wore off and he just went "well okay im doing the right thing here and im not going to stop but also What The Hell Was I On"

One of the things I like about the Stormlight Archive is that at the start it looks like the cliched "the ancients had powerful lost technology", we see so often in fantasy.

And as the series goes on it becomes apparent that actually, no, this is the most technologically advanced civilization Roshar has ever seen by a wide margin. The ancients had bronze age tech and did their amazing things because of literal miracles from God
