I have no-one else to talk to about this so consider this right now a live blog of sorts of the Banana Fish dub, which just came out on Netflix in the UKOH (United Kingdom Of Hell). I'm so normal about this show I NEED TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS AND RAMBLINGS DJKSKSKSKSKSKSSK
(Thoughts on individual eps in dub will be in reblogs.)

I feel like my least favourite performance right now is Arthur. Idk I just don't think he sounds as menacing as he needs to be, and as a character his violent menace is really all he has going for him in the first place.
Max is great. Keith Silverstein is doing amazing. The highlight for me has to be the scenes where Max and Ash talk about Griffin and the Banana Fish investigation. I really hope this dub translation makes people appreciate Max's character conflicts more. I've said it before and i'll say it again: he's an incredible character.

From now on this is gonna be less coherent and more rambly djsksk but man does this episode make me feel icky (intentionally obvs)
Gotta hand it to the kid who played Skip, he handled that death scene really well. Ash getting to tell the cops to FUCK OFF is iconic. And man I forgot how vital that conversation in the hospital between Ash and Charlie is. He's right, those corrupt bastards in power cannot be brought down by investigation alone. That's so true even now.
Ugh the way all the nonce characters feminise Ash is so creepy too, i feel like they upped the creepiness in this dub, or is it just me?

Alright so i must confess..... I've seen snippets of this ep in dub before like a couple days ago. And idk if it's just me being immersed more due to the hype but I actually feel like it's better mixed here? I definitely enjoyed Eiji's lines more this time. Sure it's still disappointing that him and Ibe don't have Japanese accents like we hoped for, but so far he doesn't sound bad!
I feel like Skip should maybe sound a little more energetic, especially when he's talking to Eiji, but if I did my research correctly then it's an actual kid voicing him, so I can't be too harsh.
Ash is great so far, Ibe and Shorter are fine, and Marvin leaves a lot to be desired tbh. I expected him to sound more sleazy.
Speaking of sleazy, whoever voices Dino better be getting paid well. Not only is it a tough and emotionally taxing task to have to voice a character that vile (especially right now with all the Epstein parallels) but he actually did a fucking amazing job. Every word he spoke made my skin crawl.
Off topic but man it was just really fun to revisit this episode again! The action scenes at the end are so beautifully animated. Episode 24 could never.
I got the official anime TV guide for Banana Fish! I had to use my phones translate function which isn’t perfect but at least gives me the gist of the text in the guide. ❤️
going out on a limb here but im gonna be honest im lowk sick of the 'oo ash is dead' jokes sorry i know its to cope but his death has become the ONLY thing some banana fish fans talk abt when it comes to his character or even the show itself. even when people talk abt eiji its in the context of ash's death (the garden of light stuff) its a shame bcs this show has so much narrative depth and interesting characters that literally never get brought up
