Haven't been online much. Been going through some shit. Watched Season 10 of Love Is Blind (Ohio edition), as I was actually one of the contestants this year, and discovered that they cut out all the scenes that had me in them. Fucking fine. None of those other assholes even gave a shit about the muppets no matter how much I talked about them in the pods, and production didn't like that I wore Joker makeup every day. They made me leave filming early because I "wasn't connecting with any of the other singles" and I was "pretty much freaking everyone out." Whatever. Return to Silent Hill is not just a bad movie, it's a movie that was struggling as hard as it could to kill itself at every possible opportunity but was thwarted and kept on life support against its own wishes, and was thus allowed to fester in its own resentment for its creator and especially its audience.

It is a movie that did not want to be made, and did not expect to be seen. To say "it was made by someone who only ever read the TVtropes page for the game and never actually played or saw it being played" isn't an elaborate enough insult. It was made by someone who saw people doomposting on reddit about Bloober Team handling the SH2 remake and decided that they would play all the hypothetical complaints against Bloober completely straight. It's a movie that raises a dozen questions about its own content and answers none of them, and you can FEEL the director behind the screen jerking himself off at the "brilliance" of how ambiguous it all is, when in fact it's ambiguous because he has no fucking idea what he's doing or attempting to portray.

Nothing is handled well. Even all the "new twists" introduced to throw off people who've played the game are done in such a terrible fucking way that I literally laughed when I saw them. And when I say it resents its audience, I mean it; the plot is dogshit, the characters are dogshit, and even most of the shots are dogshit. There are two of three scenes where James' bright-ass flashlight is shining directly into the camera so the audience cannot see jack shit else in the scene, which serves the dual purpose of attacking the audience directly as the flashlight strobes around as James runs in a panic for the 97th time in 10 minutes, AND proving the movie does not want anyone watching it and feels genuinely surprised they are. The whole """"""reveal""""""" about Pyramid Head is just another, even more ridiculous example.

I could go on but there's just no real excuse for anyone making a bad video game movie anymore. The script is right there. There are millions of lets plays if you need to refresh your memory! Why are shitty directors still being allowed to throw millions of dollars into the furnace to make abysmal dogshit when they could instead make something good?

return to silent hill is not a bad movie because it's a bad adaptation of sh2, it's a bad movie because christophe ganz cannot fucking handle the portrayal of sexual assault victims with any tact. by turning them into vecna from the bad seasons of stranger things. not even necessarily talking about angela here its like five women across the two movies he directed
