while i don’t disagree that the rise of ‘booktook’ seems to lead to some very low-effort garbage being released, and the rise of not-very-good-authors like ali hazelwood, i’m having a bit of trouble seeing this as 1) a totally new phenomenon (twilight was not well-written and was huge, divergent has all the trappings of a Bad Tiktok Books, etc) and 2) thaaaaaat impactful. like i also find that stuff irritating and obnoxious, but there are SO many books out there that get published every year, including ones that get very big, that i can’t help but to feel like this is a problem that is mostly avoidable by reading books for adults
