When writing is like online shopping.
When writing is like online shopping.
Always have something at hand to jot things down should inspiration strike. Decent advice for a writer of any stage in their career. A notebook by your bed, pen and paper in your bag, an ikea pencil and a napkin. Nowadays a phone does the job nicely. Just as I have multiple notepads full of random opening lines and quotes I now have endless lists on ‘evernote’ chockablock with nonsensical ideas.

Knowing
Most things we come to know are things we learn, even those things that pertain to us on a personal level. For example I am not an early bird yet I did not always know that about myself. Knowing is not a permanent state, outside of our ability to forget, the things we once knew as fact can change as people are want to do.
They say there are things that once you know can never be forgotten, like…

Poetic frame of mind
Poetic frame of mind
This week I am feeling equally unorganised and inspired. All the ideas, none of the time or motivation. Whichever of the two is more important, you generally need both to get shit done. They’re the writing equivalent of salt and pepper.
I write poems here and there. I mean that quite literally. These two I drafted on my phone on the bus to work this morning, so they’re not exactly well seasoned.

Post Match Sass
England beat Scotland 13-6 at Murrayfield today.
I say that void of emotion or bias. Those are the facts.
I love the 6 Nations and to say I am relieved that England walked away victorious is an understatement. It didn’t always seem like that was going to be the case. The beauty of any sport is that it is unpredictable, it plays out in front of us and takes us along for the ride. The weather…

Bravo Charlie
An exercise in writing to a brief. Inspired by the phonetic alphabet, a short character piece from A to Z.
My attempt at constructing something from the nonsensical.
The alpha male of Bravo High was definitely not Charlie. Charlie was part of a very niche club called the DeltaDudes. There were 2 members in total and only one of them had actually seen Legally Blonde, the inspiration behind their…

Just One Person
Dear sweet Dolly!
Spent my Sunday evening down memory lane to create this.
I barely use Facebook anymore except for the odd post here and there but it’s a wonder for storing old photographs…thanks Mark Z. There are definitely a fair few that I should remove but I can’t quite bring myself to make the cut.
To be clear I am not a Pilot, just a bit of fun, after all doesn’t everyone take some…

Not a fan of change.
Not a fan of change.
TV Junkie && Cinephile that I consider myself, I feel the need to put it on the record how much I loathe recasting!
I will admit there are times when it is necessary, for example in the case of Albus Dumbledore in ‘Harry Potter’ when Michael Gambon took over the role from Richard Harris after he sadly passed.
Similarly in ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ with the tragic death of Heath…

Right frame of mind
Right frame of mind
I cried at work this week.
I was attempting to answer a question put to me and rather than let me answer the other person kept telling me I didn’t understand. They wouldn’t let me speak without constant interruptions, until they decided they’d rather speak to someone else. I was frustrated but not too fazed by it when the caller threw out that they ‘didn’t think I was in the right frame of mind.’…

Black Friday Motivation
The majority of my weekend has been spent trying to get the most out of the Black Friday offers, shopping around (online, I’m not crazy) for bargains, working all the angles and scrutinising over the tiniest of savings. Most of all endeavouring to not pay post and packing wherever possible. Despite my best efforts of course I could not take advantage of every situation. I missed out by being both…

THIRTY
I turned thirty just over a fortnight ago. I was so caught up in cramming a load of stuff in before my birthday that in the end I did none of it.
I failed to even write my 30 before 30 list, let alone finish it! It’s like I have this one track obsessive mind as well as an infuriating mental block. The combination of these two aspects of my personality do a real number on my productivity.
After…

#homecomforts #hostellife #blogging #thetravellinghoarder As backpackers there are many advantages to hostel life. There are certain things, however that while at home may not even appear that great, until, that is, we come back after a long time away.

A-Z Foods that I miss from home (UK)
#BritishFood
If I haven’t mentioned already I LOVE food! As a backpacker far away from home living on a budget there are foods I find myself missing that either can’t be bought over here or are just too expensive. I know how lucky I am being able to travel but it’s not always easy to look past the things I’m missing out on, because, you know…food! A – Afternoon Tea – I don’t care how you say it, you’ve gotta…

‘If it’s good enough for Glamour’
In trying to justify to myself whether it was acceptable to ‘publicly’ objectify men or not I considered other instances where myself or other individuals have done just that.
One of my favourite magazines annually dedicates it’s pages to the results of a poll on the 100 sexiest men. I cannot answer for anyone else but my reasons for looking forward to this feature isn’t because I see men as a piece of meat. It is a bit of fun, a nod of appreciation and a conversation over drinks between girlfriends. It is trivial.
The same with MCM, the hashtag on social media for Man Crush Monday, allowing us a moment to appreciate men. Their looks perhaps, but also their achievements, their talents and the person they are. It’s more catchy than Mundane Crappy Monday and surely more positive! There is also a WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) hashtag which I am partial to using as well. After all, women deserve recognition too.
I would like to think that, just because I see and appreciate the beauty in another individual, it doesn’t void any arguments I have for equality. In an ideal world equality means (to me) treating everyone with the same level of decency and respect while still appreciating the individuality (and beauty) of that person.
This is my own personal && purely self indulgent list. Because why the hell not!
