so can we talk about this moment specifically? how quickly she accessed her semblance?

we know that yang needs to store up energy in order to use it. but in this moment, it happens instantly.

one of my favorite things about yang in the past few volumes has been how much she’s grown in controlling herself and her anger, and choosing to fight smarter instead of harder.

i know that in this fight she had been storing up energy and waiting for the right moment to use it, instead of spending it all right away. and that was what helped her in this moment, and that was why she was fast enough to save ruby.

Watching how realistically bad these teenagers all are at intimacy and how slowly and haltingly and tenderly each couple is pushing the bounds of it with each other, secure in the knowledge of their mutual attraction and content to move together and grow their relationship at a pace they’re comfortable with, and thinking about how Pyrrha Nikos kissed the boy she loved just a few weeks after they’d established a mutual attraction, how they didn’t get to play the tentative handholding game, how neither of them were anywhere near ready for it, how before she takes his face in his hands she closes her eyes and mourns so intensely for what might have been, and then she kisses him, saves him, betrays the foundation of their relationship—that he didn’t want to be a burden and she didn’t want to be an idol—and goes to face her doom.

God, she was only eighteen.

Ruby gets to be the first out of team RWBY to directly talk to Salem via seer call, Yang gets to be the first to scream at her in person and just. Punch her. This girl saw the immortal witch grab the green haired gal and just went and tried to blow her up.

can we just remember for a moment that time when ruby stood up to hologram-salem and at the mere mention of summer rose, ruby completley fell apart in tears? and remember how yang sat next to her and comforted her?

and so now that we know that yang sees summer as her mom too, that means she was just as shocked and hurt and angry at the mention of her dead mother in that moment but chose to comfort ruby instead of admitting that??

I’m sorry but I can’t stop getting emotional at the Yang vs Raven comparison here

Raven has maiden powers. She’s one of the most powerful people in this universe and she ran away from Salem because she was scared. We didn’t even see her meet Salem herself (and even if she did, she would have been Yang’s age at the youngest). Just the idea that she might have to confront Salem was enough to send her running.

Yang acknowledged she was terrified. She made her jokes, but when the time came she admitted she was scared. And she faced Salem anyway.

Not just faced - she walked into Salem’s territory knowing full-well they were going to meet, just to rescue someone she cares about. She didn’t just speak when she was spoken too, she went out of her way to say her piece to Salem. And tried to fight her.

Yang is everything Raven pretends to be.
