Photography Final Portfolio 2020
Final Series Proposal My proposed final series will revolve around the concept of being in conflict with games. Ranging from absurd shots portraying a actual physical conflict, to thought provoking images with a more subtle message. Primarily this will be a self portrait focused series, with each piece being informed by the other topics we covered this semester (such as photoshop clipping masks). As much as I love being able to play games all day (schoolwork permitting), I’d much rather not be in quarantine. Being able to express this conflict of interest from varying angles and approaches, as well as exploring the concepts of moderation and “too much of a good thing”, are my overall goals for this assignment.

Nice work! You have a good sense of composition in all your works, an you use color in a distinct way that make you pieces stand out from everyone elses. Your environmental pieces benefit hugely from the splashes of red, turning mundane, albeit well thought out settings into works of art. I like the frizziness of the hair in the silhouette, again it feels very unique, though i do wish the subject contrasted with the background more to really stand out. I think you weakest set is probably the studio piece, the lack of a strong contrast leaves the image too dark and it doesn't take advantage of what the studio light can do. However it appears that you do definitely have a good handle on high contrast lighting from your self portraits, which are easily your strongest pieces. The images are so crisp, and the lighting is used expertly to create a very unique mood. Add that together with your strong composition skills and you get a very satisfying conclusion to your successful second portfolio.

Nice work! You have a strong portfolio. The compositions in your environmental pieces are superb, very focused while still having a lot of details. They might be your strongest section. This trait is maintained throughout your portfolio but it really stands out here. By comparison your silhouettes feel plain, though there is nothing wrong with them they just arent as though provoking as your other pieces. That being said I actually like the extra silhouette better, as the creative pose stands out better in my opinion. the studio piece is a massive success. The dark darks creates a wonderful contrast with the negative space of the background, perfect execution of the assignment. I think your first self portrait in perfect, the natural cropping make such an interesting piece on par with your environmentals. I think the second one, however, is a bit too cluttered an unfocused to succeed in the same way despite the nice subject matter. Overall you are an excellent photographer with a very good sense of composition, keep up the good work!

Top to bottom: Silhouette, Continuous light, Environmental portrait, self portrait in quarantine.
I think your portfolio is very very strong. Each piece is incredibly well thought out and visually pleasing. The silhouettes are a success, and the silhouette with the glasses in particular catches your eyes right away with its creativity. The studio assignments are very dynamic, and take full use of the special lighting. I think that the environmental pieces are your weakest, not showing as much creativity as the others, but this is only by a small margin, and the composition of the close up is very strong. Conceptually, i like you self portraits the best, theyre very provoking and mysterious. I do wish the face proper was in better focus, however. Overall, my only major complaint is that i would have liked to see more variation within each assignment, but as a whole you succeeded very well.

Nice work! Your pieces are all nicely varied in theme and yet still similar enough to feel as if they come together as a cohesive whole. My favorite is your continuous lighting photo. I like the pose she is in and I think the piece was well thought out, I wish, however, that the darks on this piece were really dark, as the overall glow on her doesn't stand out as much as a high contrast look. Your silhouette is very strong, I like that subject is completely obscured yet we still get a very clear look at whats going on in the background. The self portraits do a very good job at showing off you and your daily life, though if for no other reason than personal preference, I would have preferred to see more of a sense of you within them as the viewers only get the scratch the surface it feels like. In my opinion your weakest group is the environmental photos, as they are not particularly thought provoking, but that being said they all have a satisfying amount going on within them so I feel that this is an area that you can really excel at once you find a good topic to focus on.
Portfolio 2
Nice work! My favorites are the self portraits, you found a very creative way to go about the assignment. The use of negative space is really interesting here. The environmental pieces are also very pleasing to the eye, you nailed the sense of people living their lives. By comparison the silhouettes do not feel as thought provoking, though they still show off a very strong composition. All of your photos are pleasing to look at in one way or another and on that front they are all successes. I do wish that some of the photos were higher quality. Was that an exporting error or a casualty of the switch to online learning?
