the edge chronicles is a foundational work of fantasy. to me
Count Binface sounds auspiciously like Trexel Geistman. Coincidence? I think not.
I'm at a farm stay, and the husband is a conspiracy trumper. It's both concerning and very funny
Quick edit: I am in Australia
Started playing Starbound again today and I'm going crazy with the mods, stay tuned.
Damn, I'd date a bespectacled elder fellow with a wide brimmed, presumably pointy, hat
Got another one boys
GOT SOME BIG FEELINGS TONIGHT
I should probably listen to the season 3 finale of Hello from the Hallowwoods. But then the season will be over, and I'll be sad.
Sometimes, I feel about as put together as a Christmas jigsaw in Easter. Today, not so much. Maybe New Year's? You know, when it's almost finished, or it's been together and now needs taken back apart
On Tribolumiesnence (I didn't spell that right)
It's a lovely phenomenon. When two crystals (I know it works with quarts and sugar, it might only work with some?) rub together they emit a faint light from within, around the point of contact. The lights colour depends on the crystal I think. Sugar goes blue but quartz is yellow. There are a few thoughts as to what makes this happen. I'll share what I think to be the most reasonable.
The crystal rub together, providing both sides with energy (thermal from friction?). This causes an electron in the crystal to excite, and then de-excite. This deexiteation releases a photon of light. Which can be seen to the naked eye.
Another method could be the bonds being broken within the crystals structure, unleashing an electron and that kicks all the excitation into gear.
I'd need to do some more tests to see if it works when you use quartz and non-quartz. (And by experiment, I mean bashing rocks together in either a dark room or under the stars)

I laughed out loud
Possibly the best thing I learnt from reading Tunnels (and the sequels) was the existence of Triboluminescence. All you need is two bits of quartz and you can make magic light. Triggers all the wee goblin parts of the brain that likes bashing rocks together and making magic light
Ayo who didn't tell me a new dark tides episode had dropped? Just because I'm in the middle of nowhere, VIC. Does not mean that I should not be informed of this important news
reminder to worldbuilders: don't get caught up in things that aren't important to the story you're writing, like plot and characters! instead, try to focus on what readers actually care about: detailed plate tectonics
@dragonpyre any chance you could elaborate on this
I grew up learning about land formations. Seeing fictional maps that don’t follow the logic and science of them makes me upset
What are the most common sins you’ve seen relating to this? I wanna know
Mordor.
Why is the mountain range square. How did the mountain range form. Why is there one singular volcano in the center. Why does it act like a composite volcano but have magma that acts like it’s from a shield. If it’s hotspot based volcanic activity why is there only one volcano.
And then the misty mountains!!!! Why isn’t there a rain shadow!! And why is there a FOREST where the rain shadow should be!!!!!!!!
So what is a rain shadow?
Wind blows clouds in from the sea, but mountains are so tall the clouds can't get past 'em, so you get deserts on the windward side of mountain ranges because clouds can't get there to water the land, or do so only very rarely.
Oh yeah nothing is more annoying than fantasy maps that can't get mountains, rivers and rain shadows right.
May I recommend my new favorite tool: Mapgen4. You start with a random seed and then add mountains, valleys, shallow water, or oceans as you like. You can adjust the wind direction to make wind shadows off the mountains fall where you want. You can adjust overall raininess to make the rivers larger or smaller, or have more or fewer tributaries. It works best for small, isolated landmasses (think islands more than continents) but as there’s no scale bar and it’s all slightly abstracted anyway you can do whatever you want with it. I’ve only just started playing with it but it’s SO FUN.
In defence of Mordor. Whenever I feel I am getting too detailed with something in my world. Mordor pulls me out of the pit by being a literal box in a huge fantasy setting. So I can get away a single caldera in a place where there probably shouldn't be a caldera. And then not give it much of an excuse to be there other than "mmmmagic, old"
Just because I listed to the song again (You didn't know from hazbin). When Adam says "don't you act so high and mighty, did you never think that your girlfriend might be a liar" it is the dumbest line. Of course she didn't, that's her girlfriend of however long, trust kinda comes with the territory. Although it does help show that Adam is the OG dick and doesn't know squat about relationships
