Aaron’s embarrassment was more than apparent as the girl in front of him burst into laughter. He averted his gaze to his Converse-clad feet, scratching the back of his head as he tried to come up with some excuse that would return some of his dignity.

“I- I mean, I was going to,” he mumbled defensively, though there wasn’t much heat behind his words. He knew - at least, he was pretty sure - the girl meant no harm, but Aaron still felt like a deer caught in the headlights.

She almost felt bad when she saw his reserved response. Almost. But she wasn’t in a bad mood by any stretch of the imagination; in fact, she was having a fairly good day, and this boy’s amusing behavior had done nothing to dampen it. Smiling, Sydney rolled her eyes, waving away his clear embarrassment. “Oh, come on, now. I was only teasing.” Turning her attention away from him, she tilted her head to the side to see the kittens better. “So you’re really going to buy one of those things?”

Still, that’s better than nothing, right?” Sydney rolled her eyes. “His dog smells like... like... like dog. And loser bullets are completely a thing. You just wouldn’t know because you dodged your one.”

‘ do you now ?? ’ there’s a glimmer of amusement in her eyes as she follows sydney’s gaze to the empty diner. a glance around at the fairly empty street, and amandine shrugs. what the hell, right ?? it’s something to do, and she’s always had trouble saying no to pretty girls. ‘ a monte cristo ?? i’m not in the mood, but i’ll keep ya company if you want. ’ she pauses, bending to slip her heels back on. ‘ you any good at pickin’ locks, or should i do it ?? i’ve got a few extra hairpins in my bag. ’ 

"That’s all I want,” Sydney responded, suave, though her features soon formed a grin. Her enthusiasm for the moment was clear; she was almost overwhelmed by the thought of Amandine. Though she’d never been unpopular, Sydney had also never had anyone that went along with her half-cocked schemes. People in this town were so tame. She might have been getting ahead of herself, of course -- for all Sydney knew, she’d never see Amandine again -- but that thought hardly concerned her. She’d never been one for caution. “And here I was thinking I’d be showing you a new world.” She said lightly, tone heavy with faux-disappointment. They came closer to the diner with every step they took. “Why don’t you do the honors? I’ll keep a watch out. Or not. You know, I get distracted easily.”

“All the more reason to stock it. It’s probably the next big thing.” She said, cocking her eyebrow back. “What am I doing wrong? Is my upfront honestly not appealing to you?” It was at this point that Sydney had to roll the dice. The odds were stacked in her favor; there was no way this woman was being serious. Almost no way. That shred of doubt had her hesitating for just a moment longer than she would have liked to, but, as soon as the moment passed, she shrugged amicably, sliding into the tattooing seat. “I guess if we’re about to be linked forever by these things, I should let you know -- my name’s Sydney.”

Sydney: I didn't really think about it. I guess we would live together first. Maybe even after we divorce we can still live together! Good news is we'll probably be on to Pawdrey II by then. He might be nicer.

Sydney had gone out of her way to step in front of Stella, taking advantage of her distraction, and yet somehow was still surprised when they collided. “Jesus Christ, Stell,” She said, staring down the younger woman. “I didn’t think you actually wouldn’t notice me coming.” Picking the book up from the ground, Sydney dusted off of the cover, sighing. “Don’t tell me I have to confiscate this thing from you, babe. I don’t want to --” She kind of did. “ -- but I’ll do it to keep you safe.”
