Master Wu didn't allow any of the ninja to have active accounts until they turned like 17 so just a few months before Skybound came around and Kai, Zane, and Cole were old enough to have them but Jay, Nya, and Lloyd weren't (no way jay isn't the youngest of the core four) so they got mad and bothered Wu about it until he caved
Kai posts a story of himself shirtless every single week without fail and every time he does Nya blocks him for 24 hours
When Kai doesn't post his shirtless pic of the week, that's how the public finds out that the ninja are off doing some serious business
All of the ninja have socials and every single time something bad happens they periodically archive specific posts or deactivate the accounts entirely. There's a whole ninja fandom and every time they do that the fandom goes deep diving into what happened this time and they are always wrong (ex, while Jay and Cole were beefing over Nya, Jay refused to take any pictures with Cole or repost anything with Cole in it and people thought it was because they were trying too hard to hide their secret relationship. Imagine their surprise when the media was right and Jay popped out with Nya).
Building off that, bruiseshipping is insanely popular in the ninja fandom and Jay and Cole genuinely play into it without realising they are. Nya finds it so funny
Jay's pfp was always him and Nya but after she becomes the ocean he changes it to just being her, changes his bio to the date that she became the ocean and a blue heart emoji plus a wing, and takes down every single post that isn't Nya before leaving his phone at the monastery and going radio silent
After the merge Nya pretty much does the same thing, but keeps up one post with the rest of the ninja and makes her pfp a picture of Jay kissing her cheek or a silhouette of the two of them on top of the monastery
Cole was briefly a mukbanger but genuinely had to stop because people were making think pieces about whether all the food was making him a worse ninja (it wasn't)
There's a main "@ninja_of_ninjago" account that Pixal runs where she posts PSAs every time there's a major threat the citizens should be worried about. Pixal makes all of the ninja repost every post so that their individual fans see them but Kai never does because it would "ruin his aesthetic." They fight about that a lot.
Jay had an inventing YouTube channel as a kid that he was really passionate about but got teased for. People dig up after he becomes a ninja so he starts it up again (#digital footprint), but mostly shows people how to diy self-defence and home protection tools out of scrap (go junkyard boy go!) in a city as dangerous as Ninjago
Despite being a nindroid, Zane is actually really bad at navigating most social media and hates doom scrolling because he thinks it's a waste of time. He only logs in to repost PSAs, post himself and Pixal (and his siblings every once in a while) and occasionally comment on Borg's or the other ninja's posts.
The only social media Zane actually gets along with is twitter (or whatever ninjago equivalent—i guess that's what Chirp is?) and he's actually had more viral tweets than any of the other ninja because his one liners are insane
Nya doesn't post all that much because she gets a lot of comments from creeps (unfortunately), so she has like a jay highlight with maybe 3 or 4 pictures in it (which are all incredibly shot and put behind the best music), a PSA highlight about how to be safe in Ninjago, and then like the three posts she's made over 4 years. One is with just Jay, one is with her family or just Kai, and one is with the other Ninja from after one of their victories (like the party after Hunted).
She starts posting more after she is no longer the endless sea because she starts to want to document every moment she gets to spend with the people she loves
Nya is also mutuals with a LOT of female athletes and lowkey rides for them in comment sections hating on them
Despite not posting on her main insta a lot, Nya has a tiktok spam which is just doing trends and messing with Kai and Lloyd. All of the ninjas closest friends are on it but she removes Kai every time he pisses her off and he has to apologise to get back in.
All of them except for Zane have spams/secret accounts on everything because Zane is like, "why have another account if I can just post on my main one?" (Even though he barely posts on his main one). It ends up being really silly because he genuinely just posts on Pixal's or Cole's (he's the only one of the guys who will let him) alt accounts when he realises that he actually does want to make a silly post
Lloyd actually posts a fair bit, like more frequently than Cole or Zane but less frequently than Kai, but mostly just about his family. He has a pinned post with Wu and his father when he was just sensei Garmadon, but other than that he only keeps one other post on his account at a time and it's pretty much always a photo dump of the other ninja
Because of this every time he posts his fans take screenshots of each image and repost them because they know the posts will disappear eventually
Every once in a long while, though, he'll post a prank video—old habits die hard, and even if he's physically a teenager, it's only been a few years since he's left darkleys.
Kai and Skylor are lowkey on and off again, and he always puts her @ in his bio when they're on and takes it out when they're off. Skylor is too nonchalant for allat and never puts his in there unless they actually manage to stay together. Plus, her account is private so nobody actually sees her post anything about him on the rare occasions she does. A lot of Kai fans jokingly make fun of how whipped he seems compared to her, but in real life they actually like each other pretty equally
Cole and Jay do challenges with each other all the time and sometimes drag the others into it. Zane is the most frequent victim but they had to take a break from asking him to do things when they did the tortilla slap challenge and Zane almost took Jay's head off with how hard he slapped
Cole reposts a lot of stuff about queer rights but never actually "comes out" because he never feels the need to and the rest of the ninja are super accepting. He doesn't care about the opinions of the public, he cares about the opinions of his family, and his family loves him unconditionally
The ninja have been photographed at pride parades (does ninjago have those? it does now.) on multiple occasions and one of the posts on the main PSA account is literally them posted up at a parade. After prime empire Jay overly likes makeup (obviously we know he's worn it before, during his show, but it was the new prime empire look that made him really comfortable with it) so he always goes full glam and makes anyone else who's willing do the same. He usually finds grwms boring but he loves a grwm to go to a pride parade because it's just him doing his own makeup and then Nya's and Pixal's and Lloyd's, then chasing everyone else around trying to make them wear lip gloss. Cole and Kai don't like wearing it but Kai will wear the fuck out of a crop top, and Zane will try anything once
Jay and Cole also make a collab post at every single parade they go to because jay is bi and Cole is gay, and even if none of the ninja ever publicly say anything about their sexualities the two of them especially like to post about how much fun they have at the parades
After the Merge Sora doesn't really post because she's scared of being found by people at Imperium, but after she sees her parents again and realises they haven't changed she opens accounts and shares stuff about inventing and also her journey with her personal identity. She has a very niche community online that loves her very much
The ninja fandom holds Sora and Arin's friendship to cole and jay standards but there are old heads who hate on them all the time because they miss the ogs. Most people call them out because it's really embarrassing to hate on teenagers
Kai gets Wyldfire a phone and she literally becomes a chronic shitposter. It's so embarrassing to Kai because of how well formulated his socials were back when he was active but she's genuinely his daughter so he just smiles and says good job when she makes him look at every single picture in all 317 of her posts
Alll of the og ninja refuse to be posted on anything until they get Jay and wu back. Feels too wrong to have fun online with only three quarters of a family. it helps that the whole world thinks they're dead and their fandoms are just made up of people grieving them.
Obviously, none of the ninja (og ninja I mean) are concerned about posting after the merge so their accounts become relics the same way that dead celebrities always have millions of followers. Their comment sections (especially Kai, Jay, and Cole's) are full of teenagers talking about how upset they are that they missed the ninja prime
Okay I have more but this is already lowkey OD so I'm done
