Normal as you think of it isn’t in the cards. It’s just not. Your kid’s autistic. That’s not going to change. There’s no cure, because your kid’s not sick. They’re just autistic.

I moved to freaking Asia, where I work in a field I got minimal training in but make up as I go along. I married a dude who can’t eat bananas or raw tomatoes because the texture makes him gag. We think that wearing pajamas and watching Mythbusters while rocking back and forth in unison is romantic. It’s been six months since I wore a pair of socks, and over two years since I wore shoes that weren’t sandals. Normal isn’t going to happen. Give up on normal now.

BUT. If you teach your child to be autistic safely and give them the space to live as they’re wired to live, it’s actually pretty likely that they’ll have an awesome life. Not normal. Normal is straight up out of the question. But they may very well live awesomely.

I also haven’t worn socks in a long time, and I have stim toys hanging from my bag. I play the same video game every day and my job is to make weird shit and be a nerd.

I sew and crochet on the bus and in waiting rooms and during meetings, and I am specifically building a career in which I can infodump to my heart’s content. I’m actively weird and some people find it offputting.

I’m also an active and appreciated part of my community, most of the time (activity levels fluctuate) and I have kids who love me. I have built a life I love, I love and am loved, and I’m happy.

Normal isn’t in the cards for me and I wouldn’t have it any other way, now I’ve done away with the people who wanted me to fit in a person I never was or wanted to be.

i think its funny how facial scars are seen as like a major character plot point where they reveal that someone tried to kill their dad or something when i know a ton of ppl (including myself) who have facial scars bc they rlly arent uncommon and all of them are like. from tripping and falling as a toddler

i could use this post as an oppritunity to talk about how scarring is a natural and human thing and everyone has scars, and larger scars as well as facial ones and burn scars should’nt only exist in media as a storytelling device but im also gonna just say that your oc is still hot as hell if he has a massive slash going through his eye i just think it would be funnier if he got it from falling down the stairs and then picking the scab too many times
