oh this reminds us of a poem we saw in the seventies that was something like
you
me
you
me
you me
us! us! us!
you me
you
me
you

Happy pride month to the tiny cowboy and tiny Trojan man from Night at the Museum
Me entering any museum: man I’m so excited to learn all the things
Also me: GIFT SHOP GIFT SHOP GIFT SHOP
There are two dragons inside of you. One hoards knowledge and the other hoards trinkets. They’re both very excited when you bring them to a museum
becoming an adult is essentially having all your friends in different cities and permanently missing someone

Ada Limón, from “Invasive”, The Hurting Kind
you are so beautiful and fragile like an email
guy who clutches his chest and says "GOOD LORD" in sincere terror when he finds out the blueberry sale ended and they're full price again
“You must go back with me to the autumn of 1827.”

Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda (2022)
To say I was excited about this one would be an understatement. I put my name down at my local library, nearly buying it in the meantime, and having to remind myself to BE PATIENT.
WOMAN, EATING considers, but does not always delve into, some interesting moments of self-disgust, the vulnerability of young adulthood, murky mother-daughter relationships, the desire to fit in and (of course) hunger.
Thematically this book promised to cover almost everything I like in literary fiction - slow ponderings, spec fic elements, discussions on race and gender and yet… I think it fell just a tad too short. It feels like the blurb itself doesn’t quite do this one justice - it’s a quieter novel than even the description suggests.
I thought ‘hunger’ would be the most creatively flexible way to discuss all of this, but it came up just short enough to leave me feeling a tad unsatisfied. Perhaps in this lies the point? I’m still glad I read it, and I’ll be keeping an eye on Claire Kohda’s work in future. I wouldn’t be opposed to more literary fiction vampires either 😂
