dreamb0rne:
The priestess of Lun strikes you as the patient type. From the way she slows from time to time to savor the views, you begin to think she’s come from a world where she couldn’t afford to do so. With the corruption in you becoming stagnant upon arrival, you’re much the same.
Spirale’s sky had many more stars that you’d been used to, and the night had been startling–for that, and for other things you hadn’t had to be cautious about until you came here. After spending a little over half a year here, though, this had come close to your new normal. Now you delighted in seeing a sky filled with light, even if you learned they had been long-dead.
Your head slowly turns to look at Kaho as she speaks, your familiar following suit. Kids like you were supposed to adhere to curfew and sleep, but this world was closest to your old one at night. Why would you want to waste this chance by having nightmares instead?
Keeping eye contact with Kaho, your wings meld together, stretching out to point jagged arrows at the moon. It’s an easy enough answer for her to accept, you think. Besides, there was some truth to it; the Null Sun hanging in The Dream’s sky meant a lack of all lunar energy there. You hadn’t realized how much you missed that.
You watch as the angel points a wing, gracefully and deliberately, towards the moon - shining bright and brilliantly in the sky. You’d almost gotten used to the threatening aura the moon gave off in Karst... but seeing it at peace is far more pleasant. With a soft smile, you reply: “It really is beautiful, is it not?”
...The trip to the Respite itself was slow and purposeful, as you took every chance you could to admire the sights. Still, in no time, you both reached the outlook, and were greeted with the glimmering sight of Archimedes, for once, at rest. The sight should have merely been peaceful, but a pang of melancholy ran through you as you remembered Lun.
Giving a brief glance towards Lucah, you kneel in the grass and close your eyes. With hands clasped, you silently pray, to both your gods and no god in particular, for the safety of the world you knew. You don’t even know if your prayers can be heard out here... but still, you pray that back in Lun, they can soon see a moon this radiant again.
Eyes open once more, you turn to glance again at the child, patting the ground next to you. “You can sit here as well, if you would like.”

Christian hesitated before accepting the proffered tea, unsure of what to make of Kaho’s gesture. He wasn’t used to people simply… giving him things, not without expecting something in return, which Kaho clearly was not. Looking down at the cup warming his hands, he wanted to shrink, to disappear, but of course, that wasn’t going to happen.
“… Thank you. They’ve been… better.”
It wasn’t a lie. To avoid explaining further, Christian took a drink of the tea Kaho had given him. It was sweet, and smooth, and far too hot, immediately burning Christian’s tongue. He winced, and continued drinking.
The candle shop was warm and inviting, a gesture somewhat lost on Christian, as he had no idea why Kaho was choosing to take him there. She held open the door for him, but as he crossed the threshold, he suddenly stopped as he was hit by a wall of sensation. A hundred conflicting smells struck him at once, and while the sensation was overwhelming, it was not entirely unpleasant. Still, it took Christian a moment to adjust before he could move far enough into the store to let Kaho enter after him.
You look to Christian, not wanting to seem pitying, but still expressing your empathy. “I am sorry to hear that, Christian. Hopefully, though, things will be looking up again soon!” ...and as if karma is listening, you watch as he takes a big gulp of the scalding hot tea, wincing in pain as it burnt his tongue.
This candle shop seems like it’s been here for a long while, but you’ve only recently begun to patronize it. There is something so calming to you about all the various scents on display... a gentle summer breeze, the smell of freshly laundered clothes, an apple pie bursting with cinnamon and sweetness. It’s certainly not the kind of place you’d find in Karst or Lun, but it feels homely.
Christian briefly hesitates before making his way in, and you follow shortly behind. The front of the store greets you with a collection of spring-themed candles, almost overwhelming in their arrangement and numbers. “I was uncertain if you would like this place, but I figured we could walk around outside more if not.”
One candle in particular catches your eye, off to the side. With its bluish-cyan hue, it glimmers gently in the lighting of the store, and you pick it up to give it a smell before lowering it down for Christian.
“This one is called Summer Moonlight. What do you think?”
the-owl-boy:
The moment he crashed into Kaho, Otus was knocked backwards to the ground. Did- was that the dog? Did he catch it? He’s careful not to be too harsh with the sheet in the case that his wings, now turned back into a cloak, were mixed up with it, eventually managing to pull it up and off of him to reveal a head full of dishevelled feathers and hair. Taking in breaths of fresh air, he blinked and furrowed his brows, looking up to see … wait, is that … Anne, staring at him? Amidst everything happening, Otus mistook Kaho for a friend he’d met in Advent.
… Oh god, he just bumped into her, didn’t he.
The owlboy let out an embarrassingly startled whistle through his nose and scrambled to pull himself out of the sheet-and-vegetable mess he was in to apologise, to say hello, ask how she’s doing, how’s her leg, did she see where the weird fluffy molt went-
However between the white sheet tangled around his feet and the eggplant that ended up beneath his boot, that plan didn’t go too well and he ended up falling down on his face.
… Otus refused to admit defeat yet, but his everything hurt and it was comfortable just lying like that on the ground. He did manage to sign with a free hand, though:
Hey Anne …!
Your brief indignation turns to confusion as Otus’ hand rises up, signing an unfamiliar name in greeting. As your brow furrows, you try to remember how to sign “What?” before giving up and responding verbally;
“M-my name isn’t Anne. I don’t believe we’ve met at all, in fact! And I would quite like to know why you smacked into me so hard!!”
...Ah, that isn’t really helpful here, is it? After taking a moment to reanalyze your words, you let out a sigh and a soft “...My apologies.” before climbing to your feet, kneeling by Otus’ side, and helping untangle him from the sheets that bind him.
“My name is Kaho. Again, I am... sincerely sorry for my reaction.” You look away for a moment, slightly embarrassed. “I was very excited to get to cooking with that produce. Nevermind that, though; You were looking for that dog that ran past, were you not?”

dreamb0rne:
You expected a question, but thankfully Kaho hadn’t asked any of the ones you were entirely sick of being asked. In a way, it gave you a little more confidence in being independent, like feeling more grown-up.
“…”
Your exposed eye is distracted by the gem at the front of her cloak; it’s pretty, and the hood is cool. Maybe you should get something like that sometime. Burst peeks out from behind you. You tilt your head out of polite mimicry, wings swiveling to your side. The tip of your upper wing stretches out toward the hidden entrance as you nod. Then, your wings fan out like a hand, as though to say “after you”.
How polite! With surprising poise, they motion towards your common destination, silently requesting you lead the way. With a nod and a small curtsy directed their way, you set off towards the top.
It’s such a beautiful night out... the other wards never have nights as radiant as here. The stars aren’t quite as bright as they get back home in Lun, but it’s a sight to behold nonetheless. Your walking slows near any vistas along the trail as you take it all in, minding the angel accompanying you as well.
“What a wonderful night to be out,” you say with no particular direction before turning toward your newfound companion. “What brings you up here at such a time?”
the-owl-boy:
starter for @sacrificialpriestess!
One could describe their stroll down the Star Trail tonight as peaceful, if it weren’t for the fact that half of it was being rampaged by a dog - was that a dog? - and a fluttering Otus, who, in a moment of feeling heroic, was trying to retrieve the sausages it stole from a butchery halfway down the street. Running from one shop to the next, the dog easily threaded through aisles and and stands of goods, contrasted with the clumsy, eager owlboy that knocked everything over with his body and wings.
His head whipped left and right after he flew out of a now-dishevelled shop, too caught up in his chase to hear the screams of the shop owner and laughs of a nearby crowd of teenagers. There! A flash of black fur ducking and running underneath a stand of the market nearby. Otus immediately followed, pushing his wings to take him faster. He’d quickly sign a messy “excuse me,” to the stand owner while flying through it, forcing himself to keep going despite the fact that he caught himself in the fabric acting as the makeshift roof for the stand, and … uh- uh oh- it wasn’t coming off. He ripped it straight from the stand and left it crumbling as the wooden boards toppled over, but continued in his adventure.
A panicked hoot whistled out through his lips and he tried to desperately thrash his way out of the cloth without stopping, but alas, he was destined to wear it forever now.
The dog ducked between a certain passerby’s feet and continued running, followed by Otus in an impromptu ghost outfit, who, unable to see, was likely to bonk right into Kaho were she not quick enough to dodge.
Ah, another peaceful night... Usually, you’d be out on the Star Trail simply to explore, but this time, you had some much-needed shopping to do. With a single motion, you hand a few dust to a street-side vegetable vendor and place some squashes and eggplants in your bag. There’s a lot of ideas for dishes running through your head right now, and hopefully you ca-
*SMASH*
...Huh. Well, something’s up. Before you can really realize what’s happening, a sequence of events plays out in rapid succession. First, you hear the smash of a distant stand collapsing, followed by some angry yelling and hooting. Next, a black blob of fur dashes directly between your legs, carrying a pack of sausages in its mouth as it dashes dutifully. Then, like a train wreck in slow motion, you turn around just in time to see the ghastly sheet-covered kid crash directly into you, sending you down to the ground along with your various veggies.
...After taking a moment to realize what even just happened, you glance up to find a very distressed and confused owl boy, surrounded by the vegetal casualties of the crash. You almost feel like apologizing yourself, but... you can’t muster up much more than a belligerent stare.

Christian didn’t understand why Kaho kept trying to contact him, why she kept trying to care. Every message he received from her on his phone only deepened his guilt. When they had first met, he hadn’t trusted her; everything had been too new, too strange, her words too kind for someone like him. They were still too kind. But now, it was growing harder and harder to feel anything as a sickeningly familiar emptiness grew inside him, pushing everything else out, even the mistrust, even the guilt.
Finally, he messaged her back, and agreed to meet.
It was a long trip back into the city proper, a trip not helped at all by the prospect of accidentally meeting someone other than Kaho there. Christian made his way slowly through the city streets, partly out of caution, but also partly due to the fact that he wasn’t entirely sure where he was going. Kaho had sent him a street and a location, but where was that…?
After a bit of searching (and refusing to ask for directions), he found the right street. Now to find Kaho, and pray that someone else didn’t find him first. Was that her up ahead?
The morning feels emotional, but you aren't yet sure just what emotion it is.
Christian is... a strange one. Your first meeting with him was purely by chance, and the way he spoke was dire and defeated, but there was something undeniably familiar and personal about his struggle. You saw yourself in him in many ways. He might be reluctant about it, but in the end, you simply want to help - Loneliness only makes the darkness seem greater.
As you stand on the sidewalk, watching cars and fellow pedestrians pass by in the reflections of the shop windows, you wonder what the other priestesses of Lun would think of you now. Not even just the technological progress you've become privy to, but the kinds of people you've befriended. The elders of the order would likely think you a heretic... which used to scare you. You've accepted now that no matter what happens, you'll never see them again. It hurts to know that. If you can make it back to Karst, though, maybe you can make things right in the end.
...Ah! You were so lost in thought, you almost didn't notice the angel in the window reflection! With a quick spin, you spot Christian, and do a brief jog over to him. "Hello, Christian! It is so lovely to see you again," you say as you hand him the second cup of tea in your hands. "I figured you would appreciate something to warm up with. Careful - it’s hot!"
As you start walking slowly towards the nearby candle shop, gently guiding Christian, you ask: "How have things been, dear?"
++ did a very important survey in discord with @dreamb0rne @the-owl-boy @sacrificialpriestess
hc + leaves! or trees in general
send me ‘ hc ‘ + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character
There’s a great deal of comfort in nature for Kaho. Lun was a village blossoming with life, and the Lun tree helped give her purpose and passion. It’s not like every tree is equally as sacred in her mind, but… It reminds her of home, seeing autumn leaves blowing in the breeze or the fresh blossoms of spring.
It gives her hope that she can make it back, someday.
hc + friendships
send me ‘ hc ‘ + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character
Kaho’s not a loner by nature, but lately has taken to isolation. It was a conscious choice on her part, given that she knew her time was coming soon.
Now that she’s in Isola, though, she’s been able to blossom socially again! New friends of hers include a goddess of the moon, a pair of tiny angsty angels, and a dragon prince. They’re pretty cool, she thinks?
hc + cleaning
send me ‘ hc ‘ + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character
She’s not necessarily a clean freak, but Kaho keeps her space as tidy as possible. It’s not hard, given that she doesn’t really... own much of anything, other than what she has on her plus a few souvenirs and decorations. It suits her better to live lightly, since she’s out and about most of the time anyways.
That being said, if anyone ever needs help cleaning up, she’s always up for the task. Don’t expect it to be done instantly - she might decide halfway through that she would rather nap for a while - but she’ll get it done.
...That’s discounting the cat hair she’ll end up leaving all over the place, though.
hc + movies
send me ‘ hc ‘ + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character
Kaho’s always had a flair for the theatrical, filling her fighting style with plenty of dramatic poses and flashy moves. She’s not really used to the technology of movies yet, but she can appreciate a well acted story any time! Plus, there’s usually some candy involved if she goes out...
She’d be into action movies and sappy romantic flicks for sure. She’d also want to drag along her newly adopted kids basically any time she went out. No idea if Christian would like the movies at all, but he can get some sweets at least

Shit I’ve said to my cat; sentence starters
“What are you doing?”
“What did you knock over?”
“Don’t eat that!”
“What’s in your mouth? What do you have in your mouth?!?”
“Plastic isn’t food.”
“How did you get up there?”
“Are you stuck? You got yourself up there, you can get down.”
“I have to pee – can you move?”
“It’s so early, please stop.”
“I haven’t seen you in hours. Where were you hiding?”
“I know you’re trying to tell me something, I just don’t know what.”
“Don’t be mean! I’m just trying to love you!”
“You’re just the cutest thing ever.”
-points to mirror- “That’s you!”
“I’m trying to take a picture of you, please stop moving.”
“You haven’t moved in hours.”
“How can you be such a bed hog? You’re so tiny!”
“You have the cutest nose.”
“Look at those feet-ies!”
“You’re like a gargoyle up there.”
“Don’t bite me, that’s rude.”
“You look so comfortable. I wish I could be that comfortable.”
“All you do is sleep and eat. That’s the life.”
“You are so lazy. You would not survive in the wild.”
“Could you blink, or something? You’re starting to freak me out.”
“Those squirrels look like they’re doing something shifty.”
- boops nose -
darkmoondelusion:
He should’ve known such a question would strike such emotion into his new ally. He shouldn’t have asked… or, perhaps it’s good. Holding one’s failings so close to the heart, never to escape… well, it leads to ruin. Gwyndolin knew that better than anyone, and yet he figured he would remain silent in suffering forever.
It took a certain strength to speak it to another person – that was something he didn’t have right now. But staring down at the pained priestess was like looking into a mirror and, by the moon, the god hoped his words could offer any kind of comfort.
“…thou art not a failure, Kaho.”
Gwyndolin rested a hand on her shoulder, looking somber. As if someone who was fully ready and willing to give up their life to save everything ever could be.
“This is not thy fault. I know thou must have been through much to get that far. And I cannot say thou shouldst not hurt from not being able to protect thy land, but…
…Mm, perhaps I do not have a right to say this at all. My people held self-sacrifice in high regard, because it was needed to hold back a great evil. But I believe that to live is worth more… and that includeth thee.
Truthfully, we do not know the nature of this place. For all we know, it could be outside of time itself. Prithee, do not give up hope yet… if thou didst not see thy home destroyed, then it may not yet be the end. …And, for what it is worth, I am happy that thou art here with me, in this moment, alive.”
All pretense you’ve been maintaining to this point has fallen to the wayside. Tears are falling fast now as Gwyndolin’s hand rests gently on your shoulder. It’s all so scary - it’s not like you’ve even had the chance to open up this freely to anyone in ages, let alone to a goddess, and your thoughts are spinning so quickly. It’s almost entirely unbelievable that anyone would be glad you’re alive, and yet...
You embrace Gwyndolin. Full-armed, squeezing them tightly, as your tears grow into a waterfall. It feels a little silly having such a moment, given the circumstances, but that doesn’t slow anything down. In your mess, you manage to barely squeak out a response -
“Gwyndolin... th-thank you. I have been so scared, so confused, and I j-just...”
Oh gods. You pull away, taking a moment to steady yourself and staunch the waterworks, breathing deeply, before continuing.
“You are right. I have to pray, to keep hope that my people live still. I barely know anything about this... purgatory we are both in, but you could very well be right. I have to hope so.”
Despite your emotional state, you still find it in you to smile softly.
“I am glad you’re here, too. And... I am glad to be alive, and with you right now. You really are a goddess of the moon, are you not? A guiding light in the darkness of night.”
im writing jokey answers to these asks as a defense mechanism against this emotionally harrowing reply ive been postponing writing for ages but... im all warmed up now... its time to do it i think
