Y un día, te conviertes en adulto; lloras en la noche, o en el baño, luego te limpias los ojos y continúas tu camino.

Where is my reserved chair? 🪑
Juro solemnemente que mis intenciones no son buenas.
A few years ago I fell into a rabbit hole about exvotos — small, mexican paintings that express gratitude towards God, the Virgin Mary (Virgen de Guadalupe) and other saints alike for their miracles — and found some old and recent ones made by queer folks, so I wanted to share my small collection of lesbian exvotos.
My own rough translations under each!
CW: Some of these paintings portray depictions of artistic nudity & suggestive art.
“While being with Sonia, my father found me with her. He was so angry he kicked me out of the house. Alone, I clamored to the Virgin Mary and he forgave me, accepting me for who I am, which I'm thankful for. I was born like this and I cannot change.”
Vaneza Rodriges, February 14, 1987. Polanco, México.
“Marlene Martinez dedicates this retablito to you, Señor de la Columna for allowing this relationship with Veronica E. Because of fear of criticism, I couldn't accept I am a lesbian but you gave me the strength to be happy."
México, May 5, 1980.
“Dolores and Claudia thank La Virgencita de Guadalupe for granting them the miracle of their families accepting their relationship as a couple and no longer hiding and live very happily.”
July 12, 2001.
“Miraculous Señor de la Columna. I, Aida Salcido and my great love Rocío Gonzalez, thank you since you helped us because we are different and nobody understood us and we no longer have to hide, we live together and it seems like family and people are starting to understand.”
Coyoacán. March 15, 1974.
“We thank San Sebastián for having met each other and living as a couple with happiness and being able to formalize our relationship before society without having to hide it because we love ourselves as we are and who cares what we do.”
- Sofia & Rubi. Col. Polanco, México. 2007.
This is a long post, so more under the cut! (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。
connecting to la santisima
i recently have begun to seriously study la santa muerte, in looking for iconography i was insanely attracted to gold imagery featuring her (fun cuz i am a silver girlie for life) i found that i kept coming back to this imagery. i consulted the cards about if i should connect specifically with the gold aspect of santa muerte and the cards gave an enthusiastic yes.
i have also learned how simply speaking aloud is very helpful in the craft i simply said “i wish to speak to santa muerte and no one else through these cards” and i got a very clear answer and i heard owls outside my window. (crazy i know, believe me or don’t)
in effort to connect more to her i have made this drawing by RAVI ZUPA ARTS my phone screen in a attempt to keep her close on a daily basis
also:
as it is December 3rd and the feast day of La Virgin de Guadalupe draws near i have begun a novena and plan to be consecrated on the 12th. She has been a great spirit to work with and one i greatly enjoy, i will be buying a figure of her to add to my very small altar soon.
