Robert Harvey Oshatz: Wilkinson Residence
Located on a flag lot, a steep sloping grade provided the opportunity to bring the main level of the house into the tree canopy to evoke the feeling of being in a tree house. A lover of music, the client wanted a house that not only became part of the natural landscape but also addressed the flow of music. This house evades the mechanics of the camera; it is difficult to capture the way the interior space flows seamlessly through to the exterior. One must actually stroll through the house to grasp its complexities and its connection to the exterior. One example is a natural wood ceiling, floating on curved laminated wood beams, passing through a generous glass wall which wraps around the main living room.

A few months ago David Chambon has been working on a series of amazing photographs of insects covered in dew drops. If the “creativity” of the phenomenon is due to the nature only, Chambon takes credit for putting in focus, with exemplary photographic expertise, these little natural wonders.

King Baboon Spider (Pelinobius muticus)
…A species of Old-World tarantula that is native to eastern Africa, especially Kenya and Tanzania. King baboon spiders usually inhabit scrubland and grassland where they will dig burrows. They will lace these burrows with silk and attack any animals that cross the entrance, these animals usually consist of insects, mice, birds, and small reptiles.
Like other Old-World tarantulas the king baboon spider is highly aggressive and is capable of delivering a very painful bite, which is not fatal but can cause sharp pain and hallucinations in humans. When provoked, they will rear up and strike down repeatedly. They are also one of the few Theraphosid spiders that stridulate as a defense mechanism.
