squad 312 and their music taste
Tyler - almost entirely listens to radio music that's about seven years old i fear. Every now and again some song from his dad's time will pop up on his playlist, and they're usually the best ones there (they sound like Everybody Wants To Rule The World, the rest of his playlist is like. Riptide or smth.). I think he would like the 2380 equivalent of ABBA. I also think multiple people have said he's a swiftie - which I agree with - but I specifically think that would be because Scarlett listened to her when she was much younger, and while Scarlett moved on, Tyler never did. He's a decent singer. Can hold an alright tune. But I think the thought of singing in front of people would make him genuinely want to toss his guts. Big shower singing guy tho. Also probably played the drums for a brief period of time as a kid.
Scarlett - Britney Spears, Charlie xcx, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, SZA, Dove Cameron, Doja Cat, those kinda vibes. It's mainstream, and she couldn't care less - it makes her a reliable pick for aux. I'm a firm believer that she's also a fan of musicals, so there'll be an occasional sprinkling of Rent, In the Heights, Moulin Rouge, Wicked, (oooh what the Wicked press tour would've meant to her) maybe a bit of Hadestown if you find her hidden playlists. It's not the most breakthrough music taste of the bunch, but she loves it anyway. Defo buys her favorite singers makeup deals too.She probably wanted to be a good singer as a kid, but im really sorry to say that Tyler is a better singer than she is. Not by a lot, and she's not bad, she's just not amazing. She knows this, she has no qualms about singing along very loudly to songs anyway. Finian finds it adorable.
Cat - She has a limp Bizkit poster. She knows all the Gorillaz lore but she prefers Blur, and Radiohead is deeply important to her late night drinking sessions. I think she at first hated Scarlett's musical love, but over time and with deep resentment she actually grew to tolerate a couple of them. Scarlett calls her the Elphaba to her Glinda, and Cat says that she's actually the Burr to Scar's Hamilton. She's very ashamed of the fact she knows a lot about Beetlejuice now. Probably had Noodle from Gorillaz as her pfp in middle school before it got changed to the dog from Snot. This girl plays BASS GUITAR and she plays it WELL. I imagine it's probably one of her main hobbies, and she really loves making her guitar look cool. She can sing rock metal pretty well, (has no healthy vocal techniques though) but with any other form of singing she's incredibly flat, can't hit a note.
Finian - He listened to Bo Burnham way too often when he was around fifteen (if he hears that mans voice now he reacts like a sleeper agent). But nowadays I think he's more into Tame Impala and Mac DeMarco. Jeff Buckley is reserved for special occasions where he feels like breaking down. Sufjan Stevens is a lethal weapon that will make him tear up on the spot. He also likes Laufey but doesn't tell people because hes terrified they'll assume he's being performative. Can't play any instruments unless you count being able to synth beats and stuff on softwares. He's a slightly better singer than Tyler is, but only to the degree of being pleasant when he sings to himself. Can't sing loud very well and quite frankly the thought makes him reach for a gun. Like Tyler, he wants to vomit at the thought.
Auri - Big Conan Gray listener, big Faouzia listener, big Alex Warren listener, big Billie Eilish listener. Her taste is just off-cilter mainstream without ever being too gratingly popular, occasionally there are whispers of indie singers in her playlists. People are torn between thinking her taste is peak and thinking it's genuine trash. She really wanted to get into music with no words, so she would be better at focusing ( + she thought that it would make her seem cool), but she literally couldn't do it, it drove her insane. Can't sing. Can't. At all. It's really bad. She doesn't try anymore and she's a little embarrassed over how horrific it is, but shes come to acceptance. She found this out around the age of eight when she sang at an assembly and it was horrific. Callie was a beautiful singer though.
Kal - He knows a lot about music theory and has canonically studied music, so he's the most knowledgeable about it amongst the squad. He can recognize music made well even if it's not his genre. That said, the music he actually enjoys listening to is often wordless and very emotional, kinda like "Snape's Demise" from the hp soundtrack. When he does listen to lyrics it's quite dramatic or sombre. Achilles Come Down type vibes, Bells of Notre Dame type vibes. I think the Prince of Egypt soundtrack probably does a lot for him emotionally. Has simultaneously the best music taste and also the worst because you can never put it on around other people. REALLY struggles with Scarlett's music taste, like he genuinely finds it hard to listen to. Approves of some of the musicals tho. Canonically a musician, I think he's probably very very good at the siif if he's been playing it since he was a child. I assume he's also a beautiful singer, by far the best of the whole squad, but he only sings in private. Aurora thinks it's wonderful and he sings to her, the others didn't know he could sing until like a year into their friendship. Then they got pissed because he was a little *too* good and it wasn't fair.
Zila - doesn't listen to a lot of music. If she does, it's mindless. If you now Let Go by Ark Patrol (Google it if u were on tiktok at all i know u know it) i think that's the only genre she would really listen to, and she often plays the same song on repeat. She has a guilty pleasure for podcasts that read Reddit stories though. I also think that she's in heavy, heavy denial over the things that Gigi Perez's music does her emotional phyche, it speaks to her too deeply, she views her songs like heavy drugs that should be avoided (she loves them).I think she used to be a very cute singer as a kid, probably liked to put on little dance shows for her parents. But since *the incident* i genuinely believe she has never tried to sing even once. But she was defo great at the piano as a kid and could still play it if asked.
Saedii - dramatic like her brother but in an entirely different way. Emotional music does nothing for her, and she prefers it when the choir sounds like they're angry (insert that one song here). Will forever deny it, but she really likes Terran electric guitar. Probably doesn't hate Florence + the Machine either. Her father put her onto violent political podcasts as a teenager though and she had to delete them all as an adult post meeting Tyler. Can sing beautifully just like her brother, but finds no purpose in it and does not polish her skills at all. Also like her brother, Scarlett's music makes her want to carve out her eardrums with a knife.
