Hey everyone, I apologize for the long absences. The summer is often a rough time for me, and this one has come with the added benefit of some health issues that haven't been super fun. The thing is, I know I feel better when I write, so I am attempting to do it again, even if it is just a little a day. I promise I'm not abandoning Death Is a Delightful Hiding Place, and I do have an ending in mind; we just need to get there. For now, here is the beginning of chapter eighteen. Feedback was that you guys wanted more domestic, normal shenanigans with these two, so let's make that happen.
Guy was once again shocked and more than a little thrown off by just how normal everything seemed. There were abnormal moments and surreal things that sometimes made him question reality, like opening a fridge, thinking he would find nothing but food, and finding several bags of stolen donated blood. When Guy asked about it, Jasper went on a rant that was quite impressive about how, yes, the blood was a donation, but they were going to toss it for stupid reasons like the recipients were out of the country or blood wasn't good enough for modern medicine, but it was sure as shit good enough for him.
"It's a waste," Jasper spat out with so much vitriol and venom, "and yet another way the fucking Talamasca are failing. If they wanted to, they could form a division to make sure blood isn't wasted; they could collect and make sure no one is out there starving; then no one attacks anyone, and we all have fewer problems. Instead, they're going to sit back and watch as blood that's more than good enough to be tossed away while idiots pointlessly take lives because they don't know the meaning of the word control."
Guy wasn't about to get into a debate about the ethics of donated blood that can't be used in a medical setting in a world where vampires exist with a vampire because that seemed like a very good way to start an argument he was going to lose. Instead, once Jasper went to sleep one night, Guy moved all of the bags that were in the fridge a bit haphazardly into one of the crisper drawers at the bottom, mostly because it amused him. When Jasper saw where the bags of blood were neatly placed, he raised an eyebrow at Guy.
"What? I thought it was the best place to keep them so they'd stay fresh," Guy replied, and if his eyes were a bit wider and more 'innocent' looking, it was absolutely unintentional.
"I'll show you fresh," Jasper muttered, and the rest of the evening was unproductive in the kind of way that Guy was trying to accept was completely fine.
