Today we have yet another instance of I Really Like Green Worms. Unidentified nereid.
Um š„ŗnot my usual post but do you like my worms š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ
The new biggest worm! With a Dr Pepper and a doorway for scale
The worm is made of a blanket and filled with batting scraps and fabric scraps so itās surprisingly dense for a stuffed animal. A nice weight to wear draped over your arms like a feather boa. All in all 10/10 would make another giant worm
Hate hate hate when people say āearthworms canāt drown!ā When people are talking about saving them from sidewalk puddles. Yes, it takes days for them to actually die in water, but they canāt move well when fully submerged and can still get stuck and die! They are worth saving! (Earthworms can survive in water, but it can be hard for them to move through it, especially on concrete: this is why sea worms often have parapodia or differently shaped bodies that allow them to swim!)
ALSO!!! THEY CAN SUFFOCATE IF THE OXYGEN LEVELS IN THE WATER ARE NOT OPTIMAL!! THEY ABSORB OXYGEN THROUGH THEIR SKIN. JUST BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE LUNGS DOESNT MEAN THEY DONT NEED OXYGEN!!!
All this to say, please, donāt discourage people from pulling worms out of sidewalk puddles. If anything, tell them to wash their hands first or use something (like a card, I use cards) to pick them up so the salt from your hands does not harm them.
I feel sad when I see waterlogged worm bodies all over the city after the rain. Thereās no harm in scooping them off the sidewalks either. It gets them out of peoples walking paths and reduces the chance of them drying out when the rain stops. Iām sure they donāt mind a helping hand getting them where they need to go!
14/5/26 gentle reminder

Wyd when i pull up to the function with the worm tangle
I used to be monotheistic. Until the great worm that I worship got cut in half
soil mates š„¹ I had this idea simmering in my mind for a week and finally got time to draw it. Pretty happy how it turned out. For the tape worm and hook worm, I use the SEM photos as reference because otherwise they would just look like normal worms.
Flatworms pt.1!
Lumbricus castaneus may be one of my favorite local earthworm species for its small size, active nature, and strong iridescence, which varies in color from deep blue to yellowish green.
found on the surface under leaf litter or old wood, when you uncover one of these spirited little worms itāll sprint off to safety, shining all the way.
do you guys remember when we used to say oh worm all the time. remember that
is anybody out there
