Da server/Instance is da train station (or parking lot). Yoo can pick something with a theme or general socializing. I picked general socializing cuz I like to stumble on things I do not know about. Also I do not think they has puppet paleography gardening server.
I wanted a smaller server cuz a pawpular server is moar likely to get overwhelmed wif wat going on at Tweeter. But still wanted suggested by joinmastodon cuz it vetted.
I looked at Ohai, of course, cuz Lolcat, den looked at da rules, den looked at dere list of blocked servers and why, and since I do not want terfs or conspiracy delusions or not sees or brand spam in my local train station, I joined dat one, cuz dey was serious about blocking.
Videos must be less than 40mb. np. mai videos is 59.5 seconds or less. Some people can get videos to embed from offsite, but not me.
"Local" is posts ("Toots") by people on yoo server (like yoo train station).
"Home" is people and hashtags yoo follow in chronological order. No ads, no celebrities unless yoo want. Like your own train car decorated how yoo want.
"Explore" is trending Toots and suggested people from Toots yoo has liked or boosted.
"Federated" is da main train station, where all trains end up. If yoo want chaos, go dere. If not, don't.
"Favorite" (star) works like a Like, but Toots are not ranked by likes. It's just appreciation.
"Boost" is a reblog, da only way to get Toots to moar people's eyes. Will only show to your server and people following yoo.
If yoo @ a user in a DM, they will see da DM, even if yoo not talking to dem. Do not gossip in da DMs, ha!
Your rss feed is https://server/users/username.rss if yoo want to use IFTTT.
Dere is no way to get verified. People is using da verified emoji as a joke.
It easy to do a content warning (CW) and people even use it fur political toots. Yoo do not has to filter CWs, but you can.
It also easy to caption images and lotsa people will not boost (reblog) without a caption.
Bots are not allowed to reply to yoo wifout advance purrmission.
