Hello everybody! So I’ve been a bit busy with work lately so I haven’t responded to my messages, but I finally wanted to take the time to write a big post about how to hack the latest version of the 3DS. I’ll try to include everything I remember off the top of my head, and I will continue to edit this post if additional information pops up!
Okay, so a few things you are going to need in order to hack it is a computer that has an SD card port (you’re going to be putting some stuff onto your 3DS SD card), your 3DS (including the SD card), and 7-zip installed onto your computer or anything that can extract stuff from the zipped folders.
What you are going to be doing is called browserhax. It pretty much says it in the name; you are going to be hacking the browser on your 3DS so you can hack your game. If you are not comfortable hacking your browser, you could always do it temporarily and once you install and activate the browserhax there is another way to do it called Ironhax. You install the original version of a game called Ironfall THROUGH browserhax (they took Iron Fall off the Nintendo store so there is no longer a legit way to obtain this game) and you can continue to do your hacking through there incase you do not want to hack your internet browser on your 3DS. I do not know the entire directions to do that but I don’t think it’s difficult to do. I believe Homebrew (http://smealum.github.io/3ds/) has the directions if you’re interested.
The best step-by-step directions I found were on @sokecrossing blog. I couldn’t have done any of this without following their directions. Okay, so the first thing you are going to need to do is download the Homebrew files onto your computer by going to this link here : https://smealum.github.io/3ds/
Once you have done that, you scroll down the page and look for the underlined hyperlink called homebrew starter kit! Go ahead and click on that and a zipped file will be saved onto your computer called “starter”. Make sure you have 7-zip or some sort of file-opening program installed onto your computer so you can extract those files.
Next, now that you’re ready to extract those files, go ahead and put your SD card in your computer. Open it on up and either extract or copy and paste those 3 folders/file that say “3ds”, “Themes”, and boot.3dsx right where all your other stuff is! @sokecrossing has a picture of what it should pretty much look like after you put those files onto your SD card give or take a few things. Those folders/file should be in the same spot where you see your DCIM folder (NOT IN the folder, but WITH the folder) , and not anywhere else.
<EDIT!: I looked back at sokecrossing’s guide and realized I must have skimmed past the save_manager part on accident, so this upcoming step is a MUST DO guys!>

I’m going to include one more step that I didn’t see on sokecrossing’s guide(I could be wrong). Now, I honestly don’t know the deal for this step, I had to go get help for it because I was going everything right but browserhax wasn’t opening for me until I did this. If you want you can try to skip this step and if your’s doesn’t work too, just troubleshoot and try to give this step a try too, no harm done. The Youtube video listed above mentions a folder that you are going to need to also copy onto your SD card. It’s called the save_manager folder. This folder is different from the ones saved by Homebrew because you need to go to a different link to go get it. I believe the Youtube video provides that link (either in the video or in the description box) and later on I will edit this once I go find the link. It’s going to be another folder you need 7-zip for and once extracted I believe it goes with the other folder, right in the same spot as the DCIM one. Again if I’m wrong I will re-update this ASAP (EDIT!: All fixed!).
Put your SD card back into your 3DS and let’s go onto the next step: go to your internet browser on your 3DS, and tap the little wrench picture that you see. That’s your browser settings, different from your system settings. Now go ahead and scroll down and hit “Initialize Save Data”. My guess is this is pretty much going to give your browser a clean slate (wiping out your history, faves, cookies, etc.) for your browserhax to work off of. It’ll give you a warning that it’s getting rid of everything that you’re browser had saved for you, as long as you don’t mind (it’s not a problem if you never use your 3DS browser anyways), just give it the okay to do that.
For the next step, you are going to go onto your 3DS browser and enter this website: http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax.php. Find the link that describes your 3DS (old or new, and what update) and click on it. You should reach a screen that says it terminated the page, that is fine. I believe it should have closed out of your browser.
This next step worked for me but I’m not sure if this is how everyone else did it too. Go back to this website, but this time on your computer: http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax.php. Activate your 3DS camera by hitting the left and right bumpers on your 3DS. Go to the QR code scanner and scan the QR code located on that webpage. It’s going to ask you if you want to open that webpage and you need to his yes. Don’t be scared if the screen freaks out after that! It’s just trying to boot up your browesrhax! If the bottom screen goes yellow and browserhax opens, then you know you did it! Congratulations!
Here are some ways to troubleshoot if this doesn’t work!:
1. Initialize your save data again! And this time make sure after you do that, you don’t open up the browser again at all! That last link you put in doing this method may have caused browerhax not to open.
2. Make sure all the additional folders you just added are in the right spots on your SD card! Sometimes the folders can get accidentally moved to the wrong spot, just double check or try to look for screenshots or visual aides if you’re confused as to where the folders go.
3. If you didn’t already, scroll back up and watch the Youtube video to download that save_manager folder in the correct spot on the 3DS SD card! It worked for me.
