Seriously anyone engaging with age verification bill discourse in terms of whether or not you think age restricting content is good or bad are completely missing the point.

These bills have nothing to do with keeping young people from doing certain things or protecting the children or whatever. Their point is and always has been one thing: If your operating system knows who you are it is impossible to have any real form of privacy on the computer.

Thats it, thats the whole thing. They want to link your every single usage of computers to your real world identity, and like they have been doing for all of time, they are hiding under the guise of protecting the children.

In this world, the slow rise of rivers and tides from dry beds and empty sands is all the warning the inhabitants need to seal themselves in their homes with what food they've managed to grow - winter comes quick and hard here. In a sudden rush of Arctic wind, the waters are raised high, high into the air - and flash frozen. For months, the world is locked in stasis, a winter wonderland of icy pillars reaching to the heavens.

Then, slowly, heat descends from above. The melting pillars shower down over the land, at first in torrents strong enough to scour the earth, and then gently, trickling down the remnant of the winter ice-pillars, in a scant few months of temperate weather which is scarcely enough for the inhabitants of the land to emerge and struggle to scrape sustenance from the flooded lands. And scrape they must, desperately, for when the ice is all gone, the water begins to evaporate, the heat persists, growing stronger ever stronger, until the land is scorched and baked dry, fires breaking out with increasing frequency -

Until the temperature begins slowly to drop, the low rivers return, and the cycle begins anew.
