Come and kiss me and let’s forget.
F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Ice Palace (via herkindoftea)
I have noticed that when all the lights are on, people tend to talk about what they are doing – their outer lives. Sitting round in candlelight or firelight, people start to talk about how they are feeling – their inner lives. They speak subjectively, they argue less, there are longer pauses. To sit alone without any electric light is curiously creative. I have my best ideas at dawn or at nightfall, but not if I switch on the lights – then I start thinking about projects, deadlines, demands, and the shadows and shapes of the house become objects, not suggestions, things that need to done, not a background to thought.

Sorry if bothering, i'm just interested in your opinion on this. I'm not the type of person who would use makeup or big fan of dresses either but i started to have feeling of inadequacy around women who look like they have some part of their femininity that i lack and i'm the one who's undeveloped. How do you think i can work on myself to change that?
if i was mary wollstonecraft in the late-18th century, i’d tell you that everything about the condition of women is a product of the way we are raised by men, that the entire character of women is a social construction. remind yourself always that your self-worth should not measured by your perceived attractiveness or conformity to an ideal, but rather by your knowledge & self-command.
if i was simone de beauvoirin the 20th century, i’d tell you that one is not born a woman, but grows into being. woman is a social category, the result of the way we live. we are structured and acculturated to become this thing called woman. we are socialised into gender roles, everything we believe is natural about being a man and a woman is a result of the way in which the power is exercised. this is not your fault, it is the consequence of centuries of patriarchal power.
now i’m neither of those two, and it’s 2016. so. close your eyes and pretend you’re the only person in the world. tell me, if you could wear or say or do whatever you wanted, what would it be? femininity is gender performance. open your eyes and aim for self-actualisation. challenge social constructs. you are who you are and who you are is enough. lather, rinse, repeat.

If you are willing to look at another person’s behavior toward you as a reflection of the state of their relationship with themselves rather than a statement about your value as a person, then you will, over a period of time cease to react at all.
