I want to tell you about a lullaby from far away, one that inspired me as I drew this little white bear. It’s called Umka’s Lullaby from a Soviet-era animation about a little polar bear named Umka and his mother. The cartoon is simple and old, but incredibly tender. In it, the mother bear sings to her child under the northern lights, promising that she’s always near, that he shouldn’t be afraid of the dark or the cold. The song is so gentle it feels like a whispered promise that love can warm even the coldest places. It’s a lullaby that so many people grew up with, and even now, it can bring tears to the eyes of adults who remember hearing it before bed.

As I listened to it, I imagined the tiny bear in my drawing falling asleep, safe and warm, wrapped in his mother’s voice.
