He read over the paper, examining it for a moment in complete and utter silence, ignoring her. He recalled vaguely what it had been like himself writing his father letters– the man hated email; hated most technology– while sitting in his dorm room at Stanford, aware of how one wrong word choice could ruin everything. Finally, he looked up at Saige and pressed the tip of his index finger against the paper. “If you intend to keep what you do a secret, Miss Carmichael, I would rewrite your introduction. Wish the man well. Insist that you’re doing better than ever– even if the words are the opposite of the truth. Slowly… brush over the details of your occupation. You get along with your coworkers and clients with ease; you’re job currently consists with ensuring customers have the absolute best experience that you can offer. A lie omitted does no harm at all, in my experience.”

Saige watched him anxiously, though she didn’t know why. Perhaps it was because she was currently seated across from the right hand man of her boss, aka the number one man to sway Vince on any matter he so chose. Or at least, that’s how she thought it worked. She wasn’t always clear on the positions of everyone within the mob. The moment he began speaking, she felt her stomach tighten, though what he said wasn’t anything critical. If anything, it actually did help significantly in how she could write this letter to her dad. Pulling out another sheet to write on, she began to write out a new introduction as he kept on talking. Pausing after he stopped, she looked over the new introduction and realized it worked much better than the first. “You’re right, this definitely sounds better. I think I’d die if my father found out what I’ve been doing for the past two years. He’s done so much for my sister and me so that I wouldn’t have to do something like this...” Trailing off, she let out a small sigh as she momentarily got lost in her thoughts of her father’s wellbeing. Looking back to the man across from her, she offered a small smile in thanks for his help. “Thank you, for helping me with this. I probably would’ve been stuck on this for another hour.”

“Writing to your father, or writing a letter? The latter is simple. A few false truths and you’ve written something satisfactory. The former, well, I’ve found it can be far more complicated than one might think. Here,” the word escaped as though he were irritable, slipping into the seat across from her. “Where will we begin?”

Saige stared at him for a moment, almost shocked that he was actually willing to help. Once the moment of surprise had passed, she slid the piece of paper she had begun writing on over to his side and sighed dejectedly. “Well I started off saying that I was getting along great with my employees, but now I don’t know where to go without obviously stating what I do here. Should I just start over completely?”

Saige stepped out of the taxi, lugging behind her the small suitcase she had managed to pack last minute. She’d just spent the past five days back in Chicago due to her father having a major heart attack that landed him in the hospital. The moment they called her to let her know, Saige flew there without a second thought of what her absence might mean. Now that he was in stable condition, Saige figured she should make an appearance again to face whatever wrath was to be given to her. Once the taxi drove off, Saige went to text Sloan to let her know that she was back, when she came to the horrifying realization she had left the phone in the car. Collapsing on the curb of the sidewalk as the frustration and anxiety of this past week came over her, she ran her fingers through her hair and tried her best not to start crying. “God, I really don’t need this right now.”

“Change your name. To Other Sloan. Then I’ll never be wrong.” Cameron smiled before drinking his stolen beverage. “We are warring over your name? Come on, Other Sloan. You can make this happen.”

“If I were to ever change my name, it would definitely not be to appease your need to call me the wrong one.” Flipping the channel to the appropriate one, she slipped her shoes off and pulled them up so that her knees were by her chest and she was sitting comfortably. Looking away from the television screen, she simply shook her head at his comment. “Oh we’re not just warring over my name. This is also a matter of stolen property. The name thing just happened to already be a thing. Be careful, Mr. Montgomery, you’ve entered dangerous waters.”

“What a small victory it would be, Other Sloan. I mean, does a name mean all that much to you? Enjoy to let me pour this beer on your head?” He laughed as she opened up another one. “Victory is mine.”

“Well seeing as how it’s part of who I am, yes. It means quite a lot to me, thank you very much.” Taking a sip of her own beer, she glowered for a moment before reaching for the remote to turn on the television as a change of subject. “You may have won the battle, but you have not yet won the war.”

“Other Sloan! What the shit are you doing?” Cameron fell back and kept the drink from spilling, but he had to hold tight to make sure she couldn’t reach it. “Keep this shit up and I’m chugging the whole six pack.”

Saige stretched her arm up to try and reach for the beer, failing as she did. “First off, I’m still not other Sloan. One of these days you will say Saige and it will be the biggest victory of man kind.” Attempting to reach for the beer again and groaned as he managed to keep it out of reach. “And second off, you most definitely will not be having the whole six pack because that is rude hosting and I am one of your most prized visitors.” Finally giving up, she huffed in defeat and sat back, picking up a new beer and popping the cap off of it again. “Third off, you suck.”

And then she just spit on me. It was everywhere. All the milk. The peas. Something else that I couldn’t really identify. And I was just standing there, like, “oh my fucking god, what do I do? I can’t yell at a two year old for getting my favorite t-shirt dirty.” It was disgusting.

“It’s never too early for foul play.” He looked at up on the couch and raised his brow. Slowly, he took a drink from the bottle. “Ah, refreshing.”

“Oh really?” Saige questioned him, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked down. “Well then how’s this for foul play.” She cackled lunging towards him in a way that she hoped would spill the beer, hoping to pin him to the couch so that she could win it back from him.

Saige looked at him in amusement as he spoke, shaking her head and attempting her best to hold back the laughter. Once the bottle left her hands though she looked at him incredulously as if he had just done her a great offense. “Oh no you did not just steal my beer, mister.” She stood up on the couch and stared at him as if challenging him for what he’d done. “It’s too early for foul play in the morning.”

“I’m only letting you in because of the beer and chex mix.” Audrey joked, sticking out her tongue at Saige before letting her inside her apartment. “Make yourself at home, it’s just us girls so there’ll be no interruptions while we get drunk and watch bad TV.”

Saige stuck her tongue out at her in return before scooting in to her place and setting both items down in the kitchen. “Both very good reasons to let a person in to your place. But also, when their name is Saige Carmichael, how can you not want them around at all times.” Laughing, she picked up two of the beers and popped them open before handing one to her. “Bad TV while heavily intoxicated. One of my favorite pastimes.”

“It’s Saturday morning. Beer already? Alright fine, come in.” Cameron opened the door for Saige and sighed. “Your Doug addiction thrills me, Other Sloan.”

“Because what’s better than a cold brewskie in the morning, you know what I mean?” Saige giggled, walking in to his place and heading straight for the living room. Setting the chex mix down on a table, she slipped one of the beers out of the six pack and popped the top off with her bottle opener key chain. “Don’t deny that you’ll be drinking one as well and enjoying the extreme entertainment that is Doug.”
