ROSAMUND PIKE โA Private Warโ Premiรจre, 62nd BFI London Film Festival (October 20, 2018).
For anyone who even briefly doubted her casting as Moiraine.
This is an underrated joke
Someone who hasnโt seen this show please offer your interpretation of whatโs going on here
kirk: its certainly true that hes physically stronger, taller, heavier than i am. his mind, steely and unshaken, but his heartโฆ his heart is delicate, fragile. like sheets of frozen dew at sunrise on teirzon fourโฆbeautifulโฆ how do i know? i see it in his eyes when his gaze lingers a little too long. and i let it. is it wrong that i let it? that i want to shelter him in my arms? kiss him? love him? steal him away from his troubles? or from my ownโฆ?
the burly freighter dude missing an eye and covered in tattoos who has been sitting next to kirk overhearing him drunkenly ramble to himself about his love for spock for over an hour now at this random bar: *through tears* you have to tell him how you feel
kirk: you think soโฆ?
several other equally musclebound and scary looking dudes sitting nearby, also in tears: *nodding*
keep the good shit comin op
Hi Mark, what are the odds of a non-sentient (animal) planeswalker?
I think you mean non-sapient. Itโs a possibility, but not a certainty.
I did mean sapient :O
yesterday I was at gamestop and a man in full Data cosplay walked up to the front counter and I did a double take so hard I nearly broke my neck. So, he walks up and the cashier just casually smiles and goesย โHowโs it going, Data? What can I do for you?โย and Data goes,ย โI am doing quite well. I was just wondering when you guys would have Destiny 2 in stock.โ This mansโฆโฆliterally did not smile or emote at all. He went all in. The cashier was totally non fazed. I, however, was completely shitting my pants cos yaโll DO NOT understand how good this dudeโs cosplay was. It really looked like fuckin data teleported into the middle of game stop in rural ohio to ask about motherfucking destiny 2.
The only time he broke character was when I was stealthily trying to stare at him and thinking about asking for a pic when he was walking out. This dude. Looked at me, completely expressionless. and WINKED at me. Someone collect ya mans he wildin lmfao
I canโt believe you met the real Data
okay but
Something seemed off about this photo

I donโt get this???
That guy in the middle is Rick Berman, the man (mostly) responsible for snuffing out every hint of homosexuality in any Star Trek character. He worked against it, he said no, there should be no gay people in space. Characters suggested to be gay are often instead made that extra bit of uncomfortable pushy heterosexual, just to make a point.
As a result, where Star Trek has a lot of the time been the first, pushing the boundaries, Star Trek was instead the last. A gay character was not introduced until 2017 and this, here, is the first time ever someone has said that theyโre gay on screen in a Star Trek series. 2019.
So fuck Rick Berman. Fuck him and his homophobic, reactionary ass.
(He also treated actresses like shit and was responsible for firing Terry Farrell when she wanted the same deal as Colm Meaney, but this is specifically about the homophobia).
Oh wow. Thank you for explaining! Could you elaborate on that last thing? I havenโt heard about that either.
Hereโs a quote by Terry Farrell from โThe Fifty Year Missionโ:
681 votes and 464 comments so far on Reddit
So yeah, heโs a misogynist as well as a homophobe. Heโs the worst.
He was also a major reason why Wil Wheaton left TNG, which you can hear more about on his episode of the Mission Log Podcast:
On today's Mission Log, the inevitable interview with Wil Wheaton. Wil talks to us about a range of topics from early TOS fandom to leaving
While Iโm at it, I may as well mention a couple specific instances of Bermanโs homophobia:
- He told Andrew Robinson (Garak) to โtone downโ his portrayal when it became clear that he was flirting with Bashir. In later seasons of DS9, their screentime together is significantly reduced and they were both given female love interests, presumably because the producers couldnโt risk people thinking they could be gay.
- When Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) pushed for a gay character on Voyager, Berman said โIn due timeโ and then never followed through. He had no intention of ever creating a gay character on Star Trek, despite support from several actors.
- A script was written for an episode of TNG called โBlood and Fireโ, which was supposed to be an AIDS metaphor and have 2 minor, background gay characters. Berman shot it down, and it was never filmed.
Iโm sure thereโs more, but thatโs what I can think of right now. Fuck Rick Berman.
Wooooow. Yeah fuck that asshole.
YEP
Rick Berman is a disgusting bigoted piece of trash and I am SO GLAD that this filth has no control over any form of Star Trek media anymore
Also, a lot of stuff I attributed to Brannon Bragga is proving to be hugely mistaken, thanks to his work on The Orville. So it seems like Braggaโs terrible writing, and bad messaging comes down to Berman hobbling him. (that, or Bragga has evolved heavily on a lot of subjects, on top of becoming a significantly better writer).
I still find it amazing that Berman let an episode where Riker falls in love with a gender queer woman actually happen.
He let it happen, sure - but Jonathan Frakes wanted Soren to be played by a male actor. Which would have made a bigger impact, considering it was supposed to be an allegory about homosexuality.
But who shot down that idea? Yeah, you guessed it.
โHaving Riker engaged in passionate kisses with a male actor might have been a little unpalatable to viewers.โ - Rick Berman
Another thing: Lieutenant Hawk from First Contact was written as a gay character in the novels. The novelsโ author Andy Mangels was told, by people at Paramount if Iโm recalling the story correctly, to get it to press before Berman could see it or it would have been squashed.
Ugh. Sent a link to this to Andy. He confirms.
Ps if youโre into show tunes, heโs in a group called The Broadway Bears and itโs pretty fantastic.
