everything that has ever made me happy required an initial investment of funds. I’m a happy person today bc I had access to therapy and medication when my mental health was in the toilet–that cost money. I have friends who make me happy–friends I met online, which required wifi and a smartphone, both of which cost money. Having pets makes me happy and fills my daily life with so much love–vet bills are expensive. Eating local foods and exploring the community I live in makes me happy–even on a shoestring budget that would still cost money.

I live a modest lifestyle but consider myself a happy person. I know from personal experience that you can have money and still be utterly miserable. But money is a prerequisite for health, safety, and comfort–which in turn contribute to happiness.

so ok, money alone can’t buy happiness. but it buys the freedom to pursue happiness. it buys our time, it buys us access to the things, places, people, and relationships that make us happy. money alone can’t buy happiness, but it drastically increases our ability to live happy lives, now pay people a livable fucking wage.
