Hundreds of rescuers scoured Central Texas on Sunday as floods pushed the death toll to at least 70. Eleven girls and a counselor from Camp Mystic along the Guadalupe River remain missing. Gov. Abbott called the campâs destruction âhorrendousâ and vowed to find every missing camper. Forecasters warned more rain could trigger fresh flooding in the battered Hill Country.
Death toll:âŻKerr County, northwest of San Antonio, has seen the worst, with at least 59 dead â 21 of them children. Elsewhere, floods claimed four lives in Travis County, three in Burnet, two in Kendall, and one each in Tom Green and Williamson counties. Dozens remain unaccounted for, including up to 13 missing in the Austin area.
The victims:âŻOfficials are working to identify those lost, including 8- and 9-year-old campers. One victim, a 27-year-old man, died heroically while breaking a trailer window to free his family from the floodwaters.Read more about them here.
