I truly believe we think about Christianity all wrong. I find there are hundreds of Christians starving for something more in life and in their faith. So I have decided to start this blog. I believe that all Christians should be master swords and I am willing to teach them the art of the craft. If you, or you and a friend are interested in learning an in-depth version of Christianity than roll up your sleeves and join in.
Just starting a little devotional series on the Ten Commandments. Come be the first to read on Instagram.
Because we serve to God of liberty who has brought us out of bondage.
Take care. It is easy to forget the great things that God has done in the past that stand in history as testament to the God Who is There. This is why God has charged you to take care and remember those things least you forget Him after He has given you all this good. Do you read the word? Do you search the scriptures for the promises God made or those which He has fulfilled?
But you shall go over and take possession of that good land. Take care, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make a carved image, the form of anything that the LORD your God has forbidden you. For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 4:22b-24

The word to the people of God was, keeping the statutes and commandments of God is the source of wisdom. The world would know God by the people who followed Him, the wisdom that they lived by would be the proof of how great their God is. The bible calls the law a lamp, it is Jesus' understanding of that law that He was called Wise Counselor. Do you seek after wisdom in the same way? Do others see God in the wisdom that leads your live? Do you look to the law to light the way and follow after God?
Deuteronomy 4:5-8
See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? And what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so righteous as all this law that I set before you today?
For further contextual reading read Deuteronomy chapter 4.

This line could easily be taken out of context but it is important to recognize how it describes who God is. God has not forgotten you, God has not left you, God has gone before you to lead you in the way you should go. The question is, are you following Him? To some degree this is exactly who Jesus is. He did not just die for your sins, He did not just reconcile you to God, He went before you to show you how to live that you may go and sin no more. When we do not follow after Him let us remember this rebuke.
The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God, who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go.
Deut. 1:30-33
The LORD is for you, are you for Him?

The Single Most Important Thing Every Christian Needs to Know
As a mentor, I have asked a number of my students over the years, “what is the single most important thing that every Christian should know?” I received various answers most of which were along the lines of, “Jesus loves you,” or “you are forgiven.” I found these answers a little bazaar. Don’t get me wrong, they are very important Christian themes, but they overlook something a little more basic, a little more essential.
One of the most awkward moments in life is when you have a crush on a girl, for who knows how long, and your friend takes the liberty to let her know. The response is, “aww, that’s cute. Who are you?” Perhaps you were never that person, perhaps you are the person on the receiving end. You hear through the grapevine that someone you don’t know or never met thinks you’re cute and you must decide if that’s cute or creepy. Isn’t that exactly who we make God to others? He is that weird guy that people mention in a roundabout way and thrown somewhere in there, “He loves you.” I mean can we make this any more awkward than a middle school courting ritual? Yes, yes we can.
We can stand on the street corner or knock on the front door of someone we ourselves don’t even know and tell them about some intimate relationship they have with someone they don’t know. Oh, and let’s not just focus on love let’s make it about forgiveness. Imagine you are at the grocery store or school or work, when someone approaches you as says, “He forgives you.” You reply with a concerned look, maybe a glance over your shoulder. They continue with, “And He loves you.” This has not helped to set you any more at ease than the first statement did. Eyebrows raised you ask, “who?” They reply, “Jesus.” With clear confusion on your face you ask, “The gardener?”
The awkwardness can be illustrated in several ways, but the fact of the matter is that the single most important thing every Christian needs to know is God. Only in the adolescent mind does someone say I like you and in the next minute they are boyfriend and girlfriend. If we believe that God loves us, that we are forgiven, we must first understand by whom? There is always a level courting that happens in relationships, a period of getting to know each other and learning about one another. Which is why I always suggest to my students to know God. Make this a starting point, learn about Him, who He is, how He behaves, what does He like and dislike.
If you consider yourself a Christian, you must know who Christ is first. So, where do we begin? The bible is a good starting point but remember, the story of Christ does not begin in the Gospels. Take a moment out of your day, write everything you know about a friend, family member or significant other. List the things they love, the things they hate, the things that make them unique. Then see if you can name just as many about God. Start by reading the bible and if possible, talk with somebody that knows God. Seek to know God first.
History is the prerogative of the Wise. For insight, foresight, and discernment all have a foundation in reflecting on the past.
