The position of Lord Shiva in Hinduism is second to no other deity, and such has been the case since the time Shiva was formally given the status of a Vedic God in the later Vedic period.
The holy trinity is an integral part of Hinduism. It revolves around the principle of creation, sustenance and destruction. Lord Vishnu is one among the three gods of this Holy Hindu Trimurti. Also known as Hari and Narayana, Lord Vishnu is the preserver of life. Lord Brahma is the creator and Lord Shiva is believed to be the destroyer. But in this article we shall be primarily focusing our attention on Lord Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi. Lord Vishnu is vouched as the eternal spirit of all living beings. тАШVishnuтАЩ actually means the one who is omnipresent and thatтАЩs the reason that Lord Vishnu is the indigenous reality of the universe. As mentioned above, the Hindu trinity personifies lord Vishnu as the sustainer of life. A reason that he is peace loving and very calm! Shown in divine and calming blue color with four arms, Lord Vishnu is the god of truth and peace. He is known to bless his followers with hope, unity and contentment. It is said that by worshipping Lord Vishnu with dedication and devotion, he saves the devotees from all evil and negative forces. Lord VishnuтАЩs wife is Goddess Lakshmi тАУ the goddess of wealth, prosperity and success. She is said to bestow her blessings in the form of fulfillment, good luck and fortune on the devotees. Goddess Lakshmi is also known as Shree because she has six unmatched attributes and also because she is believed to be the strength of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu and Maa Laxmi Lord Vishnu and Laxmi Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu have a very close-knit and loving relation. They both complement each other very well and become each otherтАЩs strength. Goddess Lakshmi can be spotted in two forms тАУ Bhudevi and Sridevi on either sides of Sri Venketeshwara or Lord Vishnu. These two forms of goddess Lakshmi have their own symbolic meaning. Bhudevi is the representation of the material world and Sridevi is the spiritual energy. People often confuse them as different entities, but the amalgamation of both these forms makes goddess Lakshmi тАУ the power of Lord Vishnu. There is a strong connection between goddess Lakshmi and her better half тАУ Lord Vishnu. It is said that she plays the role of a mediator between her husband and the devotees. Her calm, composed and motherly figure is full of warmth and compassion. This is one reason that she is believed to be the mother of the universe. Whenever devotees want to ask for forgiveness, they approach lord Vishnu via goddess Lakshmi. She holds great importance in Lord VishnuтАЩs life. In addition to that, since the world constantly requires lord VishnuтАЩs creativity, it is essential that his wife тАУ goddess Lakshmi is there to support him at every step. As an entity, goddess Lakshmi also symbolizes spiritual fulfillment. She perfectly balances stability and empathy. As the embodiment of GodтАЩs supreme spiritual feminine energy, goddess Lakshmi empowers and accredits an individual to an all new high. Before marrying Lord Vishnu a large number of saints and gods had approached goddess Lakshmi and asked her to marry them. But she refused one and all. She believed that the gods have attained their stature due to their virtues, which means no hard work at all. And the saints have big egos, as they perceive themselves to be above humans. But as soon as she met Lord Vishnu, she immediately asked him to marry her and he agreed. She knew that he would protect her. As the guardian of the earth, he is hard working and strong; the two qualities that always impress goddess Lakshmi. It is rightly said that there are no shortcuts to success. Thus, it is essential that you work hard and prove your worth before you seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi.
Indian Elephant Headed God
India is a land of diverse cultures and ethnicities, but the one thing that binds us together is the faith and belief. Whatever the religion be, it always teaches us to have faith in our self and believe that good shall always win over bad.

Lord Ganesha is one of the most popular gods of Hindu mythology.┬аGanesha┬аis made up of two Sanskrit words, Gana and Ish. Ish means a deity or god and Gana means a community or a group. Thus,┬аLord Ganesha┬аis considered to be the leader of the clan or the masses. He symbolically represents success and prosperity. His unique characteristics like┬аelephant head, big flappy ears, pot belly and a long trunk make him all the more lovable. As Vighnharta, Lord Ganesha is believed to be the remover of all obstacles. This is one of the reasons he is prayed at the beginning of any new project or venture. By doing so┬аdevoteesare asking lord to bless them and steer them onto the path of success and prosperity.
But today we shall be specifically discussing about the elephant┬аhead of Lord Ganesha. There are many┬аstories┬аon how lord Ganesha got the elephant head and its significance. We shall be taking about all of these, so letтАЩs begin this enchanting journey!
How Lord Ganesha got the elephant head?
A large number of people are fascinated by the overall┬аappearance of Lord Ganesha. An elephant head on a human body is a rare sight. But not many people know that how did lord Ganesha got this unique identity.
Once when goddess┬аParvati┬аhad to take a bath, she created a small boy, about 12 years of age to guard the door. She did this using her special powers and ingredients like тАУ turmeric, scruff and her sweat. The small boy was none other than lord Ganesha. Obeying his motherтАЩs orders he was guarding the door while┬аgoddess Parvati┬аwas bathing.┬аLord Shiva┬аreturned from his meditation session was taken aback to see a small boy standing at the entrance barring him to enter his own house. Even when lord┬аShiva┬аtold him that he is goddess ParvatiтАЩs husband, Lord Ganesha did not allow him to enter the premises. He was unaware of lord ShivaтАЩs identity and said тАЬMy mother (goddess Parvati) has told me to keep a watch and guard the door till she is bathing. Thus, I canтАЩt allow anyone to enter.тАЭ Lord Shiva tried to push away Lord Ganesha, but he strong Ganesha didnтАЩt move from his place. Lord Shiva fumed with anger and in this fit of anger he struck on Lord GaneshaтАЩs head. Hearing the commotion, goddess Parvati hurried towards the entrance only to see Lord Ganesha wounded. She broke down and cried a lot. She explained her husband the entire situation and the reason that she created their son.
ThatтАЩs when Lord Shiva realized his mistake and apologized to goddess Parvati. He immediately summoned his army and told them to get the head of the first being that they find who is sleeping with its head facing the north direction. The troops searched far and wide and finally found an elephant that was sleeping in the position described by lord Shiva. So they got his head. Lord Shiva revived life in the boy by attaching the elephantтАЩs head and also made him the leader of his army.
On seeing this goddess Parvati became all the more angry. She said тАЬEveryone would make fun of my child and nobody would┬аworship┬аhim.тАЭ Lord Shiva bestowed a boon on Lord Ganesha and said that all Lord Ganesha would always be the first deity to be┬аworshipped. He also said that prayers would not be considered complete if lord Ganesha is not worshipped at the beginning.
So this is how Lord Ganesha got the elephant head and the blessing of being worshipped first.
Significance
The elephant head on a human body might seem odd, but that is where the deeper meaning steps in. This mismatch signifies that one should not always focus on the appearance; it is the inner beauty that makes a man beautiful in the real sense. As the┬аson of Lord Shiva┬а(the epitome of power) and goddess Parvati (the mother of the entire universe) Lord Ganesha strikes a perfect balance between body and soul.
Despite being one of the most popular┬аgods, Lord Ganesha is reckoned for his humility and subtle nature. These are the qualities that should be learnt by one and all today. Never be proud of your beauty or brain, instead be thankful to god for bestowing his blessings upon┬а
Shiva Mantra and Importance
Lord Shiva or Mahadev is one of the most popular deities in Hinduism. He is in fact the considered to be the supreme God for the people of the Shaivism sect. Lord Shiva is an integral part of the holy Hindu Trinity. This trinity symbolizes Lord Brahma as the Creator, Lord Vishnu as the preserver and Lord Shiva as the Destroyer or the Transformer.
Today through this article we shall be discussing about some of the most popular songs and hymns of Lord Shiva. The following are the two most powerful mantras of Lord Shiva.
Om namah shivay!
This particular mantra has five syllables and thus it is also referred to as тАШpanchaksharaтАЩ manta. This is one of the reasons that the number five is always considered sacred for Lord Shiva. The five represents the five elements - air, water, earth, fire and space. Since Lord Shiva is believed to be the perfect and complete without any dependency, this mantra also signifies the same. The followers of Lord Shiva consider this a very auspicious mantra.
Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is the most powerful mantra of Lord Shiva. Experts say that this is the supreme mantra of Lord Shiva. It is recited to praise Lord Shiva and devotees ask him to free them from disease, ignorance, attachment and all forms of bondage. Devotees also ask for liberation, enlightenment and moksha when they recite this mantra. If the mantra is recited with true devotion and dedication, it blesses the followers with peace and prosperity.
The mantra is -
тАЬOm Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanat Mrytyor Muksheeya MamritatтАЭ
The mantra is also recited for protection, health and a disease free life.
Ganesha Vahana or Vehicle тАУ Mouse
Ganesha,┬аGanapati┬аor Ekadanta, call him by whatever name, the blessings showered shall always be endless. Hinduism is certainly incomplete without the mention of┬аLord Ganesha. The elder son of Lord┬аShiva┬аand Goddess┬аParvati, Lord Ganesha is believed to be the┬аgodof knowledge, intelligence and wisdom.
Ganesha┬аVehicle
Legend says it that one should take blessings of Lord Ganesha before beginning any new venture. Since he is the remover of all obstacles by seeking his blessings at the start of any new work or project we are requesting Lord Ganesha to protect us from negative energy and help us soar onto the path of success and prosperity.
What is a┬аVahana?
In this article we shall be focusing our attention on Lord GaneshaтАЩs vahana. Vahana is usually an animal or a mythical entity that is used by┬аgods┬аand goddessesтАЩ as their vehicle. Bull, peacock, lion etc. are some of the vahanas of gods. While some gods and goddessтАЩ are shown riding their vahanas, the rest of them have their vahanas at their side. It is essential to know that the vahanas or vehicles are not just carriers for gods; they have a deep rooted┬аsymbolism┬аand characteristics. While some vahanas may appear individually, most of them are depicted in close connection with the respective deity.
It is interesting to see that Lord GaneshaтАЩs vahana is the┬аteeny┬аweeny mouse, also known as the mooshika. A sheer contrast to Lord GaneshaтАЩs size and grandeur his vahana is meek and tiny. In the earliest depictions of Lord Ganesha his vahana тАУ mooshika was not accompanying him. It was only after the┬аMudgala Purana┬аwhich talks about the eightincarnations┬аof Lord Ganesha, people found out that five out of the eight incarnations had been depicted with a mouse.
Symbolism of Mooshika
Mouse is generally considered a destructive animal, which if not controlled at the right time can cause great damage to food and crop especially.
Philosophically, the mouse is a connotation of the human mind. Our mind is always full of desires and is often selfish, just like the mouse. The mouse is depicted as an obstacle that we create by negative thoughts and ill feelings. Also our thoughts have great power, both positive as well as negative. Negative thoughts, if not controlled at the right time can be highly destructive.
Lord Ganesha seated on the mouse depicts the lord crushing all negativity when a devotee surrenders himself to the lord with full devotion. The mouse is usually depicted at Lord GaneshaтАЩs feet. This symbolizes that Lord Ganesha is the ultimate power and under his control and blessings a steady mind would always be bowed down with humbleness.
How did lord get his vahana?
Lord Ganesha was known to be a mischievous kid. He would often run and play all over mount Kailash. Contrary to him, Lord Karthikeya was very quiet. He would sit on his vahana тАУ the peacock and deliver his fatherтАЩs messages to other┬аgods and goddesses. Seeing this Lord Ganesha also urged his mother to get him a vahana. Goddess┬аParavati┬аrefused, stating that he was too young to handle a vahana. Listening to this, Lord Ganesha started crying loudly. His sobs shattered┬аLord ShivaтАЩs meditation. ThatтАЩs when Lord Shiva told his son, тАЬI have a perfect vahana for you.тАЭ In the past days Lord ShivaтАЩs meditation got disturbed due to a naughty squeaky mouse. Lord Shiva called the mouse and the tiny creature had to obey Lord ShivaтАЩs orders. He dropped him into his sonтАЩs hands. тАЬFrom now on, this mouse will be your vahanaтАЭ said Lord Shiva.
From that day onwards Lord Ganesha developed a strong bond of friendship with his mouse and would chase him around the house the entire day.
The relation of Lord Ganesha and his mooshika also teaches us another lesson. When god does not discriminate between big and small, then who are we to be judgmental? God sees us as equals and so should we.

Shree Ganeshaya Namah!
The son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha is an integral part of Hinduism. Popularly known as the elephant deity, he is believed to be the┬аgod┬аof wisdom, intelligence and knowledge. ┬аHis pot belly, curved trunk and large flappy ears give┬аLord Ganesha┬аa unique and lovable identity. Lord┬аGanesha┬аbestows success and removes all obstacles from our path of prosperity. Ravan Tandav Stotra - Mahamrityunjay Mantra
The Ravan Tandav Stotra is one of the most powerful mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva by any of his bhaktas or devotees. All through the majority of north Indian states Ravan ┬аis seen as a figure of unmitigated evil. During the festival of Dussehra effigies of Ravan and his siblings are burnt, marking the victory of Lord Rama (human avatar of Lord Vishnu) over evil. Considering that Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma constitute the Hindu Trinity, one wonders how can the devotee of one of them end up being a cursed enemy of another? To answer that question and to better understand the character of Shiva himself, one must take a closer look at the legends surrounding Ravan.
Ravan was the demon king of Lanka. Prince Ram, who would go on to ascend the throne of Ayodhya, found himself challenged by Ravan. Ravan had abducted RamaтАЩs wife Sita and held her as a diplomatic hostage compelling Rama to meet him in battle. Ravan descended from Sage Vishrava grandson of Brahma (the Creator) himself and the demon princess Kaikesi. KaikesiтАЩs father Sumali was exiled from his kingdom in Lanka by Kuber, Sage VishravaтАЩs other son. It was SumaliтАЩs plan to have Kaikesi married to Vishrava so that the bloodlines of the demons and brahmans would mingle to produce a child with demonic strength and brahmanic intelligence. True to his expectation, Ravan showed signs of exceptional brilliance as he grew up. He had an exceptional grasp over the vedas and excelled in martial skills. Under the tutelage of Vishrava ┬аand Sumali, both his demonic and divine powers grew stronger. Ravan managed to strike the critical balance required to make the most of both his inherent tendencies.
As years passed Ravan became stronger and more learned. He performed difficult tapasya (penance) and pleased Brahma, gaining from him boons of weapons and invincibility. Feeling invincible Ravan went up to Lord ShivaтАЩs abode and tried to pluck out Mount Kailash from its roots. Lord Shiva was offended and placed his little toe on the ground and Ravan found himself unable to hold up Kailash. He was trapped under gigantic rocks and found it difficult to breathe. Realising his folly he prayed to Lord Shiva for forgiveness. It is this prayer song that is now known as the Ravan Tandav Stotra. Generous and kind as he is, Lord Shiva was so pleased with RavanтАЩs ingenious creativity reflected in the Stotra, composed under extreme duress, not only did he forgive Ravan, but having extricated him from under the rocks, also bestowed upon him the Chandrahaas Astra. Ravan in turn remained ever devoted to Lord Shiva throughout his life.
So earnest was Lord ShivaтАЩs influence on Ravan that he learnt the values of not being trapped in the world of materiality. Many who worship Ravan in temples dedicated to him praise the fact that when his ultimate battle with Rama neared, he gave up his control over the 9 planets or Navagraha whom he had imprisoned to derive power from them. RavanтАЩs devotees also believe that he undoubtedly wanted to be recognised as the most powerful ruler of all creation, but he wanted to do this more to spread the name and honour of the demon races all around creation than for personal aggrandisement. As far as Ravan was concerned the ultimate fight between him and Rama was a fight of two races that of the Aryas and the Daityas. It is debateable if Rama and his cohorts would have managed to win against Ravan had it not been for┬а┬аthe betrayal of Vibhishan, RavanтАЩs brother, who gave away RavanтАЩs strategic secrets┬аto RamaтАЩs army, enabling them to weaken Ravan at crucial junctures. The foremost betrayals included the stealthy murder of Meghnad, RavanтАЩs son, while he was in deep ┬аmeditation and the destruction of RavanтАЩs тАЬAbhijeet Chandi YajnaтАЭ atop Ratnagiri hill. Ostensibly these sabotages were conducted by Lakshman and his friends, despite the express disapproval of Rama.
The ultimate sign of RavanтАЩs renunciation in keeping with Shaivaite principles is said to be his decision to not counter RamaтАЩs Brahmastra with one of his own. Ravan, it is believed, desisted because the clash of two Brahmastras had the potential to destroy all of creation. Victory at the cost of such destruction was not what he sought. Consequently, he welcomed the fired weapon with respect and upon being hit, thanked Lord Rama for granting him moksha from the the cycles of births and rebirths. Ravan recognised Lord Vishnu in Rama and realised he was simply playing his part in a larger cosmic game, ordered according to VidhiтАЩs Vidhan or the inscrutable divine will. All these facts are remembered by devotees of Shiva and Ravan when they chant the Ravan Tandav Stotra.
Loosely translated in English, the Ravan Tandav Stotra appears as follows:
That ┼Ъiva, Who having held a long-garland of the best-snake (cobra) at the neck which is purified by the flow of trickling water-drops in the forest-like twisted hair-locks, Who danced the fierce T─Бс╣Зс╕Нava-dance to the music of a sounding-drum, тАФ May that ┼Ъiva extend my bliss.[1]
At every moment, may I find pleasure in ┼Ъiva, Whose head is situated in between the creeper-like unsteady waves of Nilimpanirjhar─л (Ga┼Дg─Б) which is swirling unsteadily in the vessel forged from twisted hair-locks, Who has crackling and blazing fire at the surface of forehead, and Who has a crescent-moon (young moon) at the forehead.[2]
May my mind seeks happiness in ┼Ъiva, Whose mind has the shining universe and all the living-beings inside, Who is the charming sportive-friend of the daughter of the mountain-king of the Earth (i.e. Him─Бlaya), Whose uninterrupted series of merciful-glances conceals immense-troubles, and Who has as much direction as His clothes?[3]
May my mind embrace ┼Ъiva, by Whom тАФ with the light from the jewels of the shining-hoods of creeper-like yellow-snakes тАФ the face of Dikkany─БsтАЩ are smeared with Kadamba-juice like red Ku┼Дkuma, Who looks dense due to the glittering skin-garment of an intoxicated tiger, and Who is the Lord of the ghosts.[4]
For a long time, may ┼Ъhiva тАФ Whose toes are grey due to the pollen dust from flowers at the head of Indra (Sahasralocana) and all other demi-gods, Whose matted hairlocks are tied by a garland of the king of snakes, and Who has the crown-jewel of the friend of cakora bird тАФ produce prosperity.[5]
May we acquire the possession of tress-locks of ┼Ъiva, Which absorbed the five-arrows (of K─Бmadeva) in the sparks of the blazing fire stored in the rectangular-forehead, Which are bowed to by the leader of supernatural-beings, Who has an enticing-forehead with a beautiful streak of crescent-moon.[6]
May I find pleasure in Trilochana, Who offered the five great-arrows (of K─Бmadeva) to the blazing and chattering fire of the plate-like forehead, and Who is the sole-artist placing variegated artistic lines on the breasts of the daughter of Him─Бlaya (P─Бrvat─л).[7]
May ┼Ъiva тАФ Whose cord-tied neck is dark like a night with shining-moon obstructed by a group of harsh and new clouds, Who holds the River Ga┼Дg─Б, Whose cloth is made of tiger-skin, Who has a curved and crescent moon placed at the forehead, and Who bears the universe тАФ expand [my] wealth.[8]
I adore ┼Ъiva, Who supports the dark glow of blooming blue lotus series ┬аaround the girdle of His neck, Who cuts-off Smara (K─Бmadeva), Who cuts-off Pura, Who cuts-off the mundane existence, Who cuts-off the sacrifice (of Dakс╣гa), Who cuts-off the demon Gaja, Who cuts-off Andhaka, and Who cuts-off Yama (death).[9]
I adore ┼Ъiva, Who only eats the sweet-flow of nectar from the beautiful flowers of Kadamba-trees which are the abode of all important auspicious qualities, Who destroys Smara (K─Бmadeva), Who destroys Pura, Who destroys the mundane existence, Who destroys the sacrifice (of Dakс╣гa), Who destroys the demon Gaja, Who destroys Andhaka, and Who contains Yama (death).[10]
May ┼Ъiva, Whose dreadful forehead has oblations of plentitude, turbulent and wandering hissing snakesтАФhaving first come out of a pillar of flames and then glowing eternally, Whose fierce t─Бс╣Зс╕Нava-dance is set in motion by the sound-series of the auspicious and best-drum (с╕Нamaru) тАФ which is sounding with тАШdhimit-dhimitтАЩ sounds, be victorious.[11]
When will I adore Sad─Б┼Ыiva with an equal vision towards varied ways of the world, a snake or a pearl-garland, royal-gems or a lump of dirt, friend or enemy sides, a grass-eyed or a lotus-eyed person, and common men or the king.[12]
Living in the hollow of a tree in the thickets of River Ga┼Дg─Б, always free from ill-thinking, bearing a├▒jali on the forehead, free from lustful eyes, when will I become content while reciting the mantra тАШтАШ┼Ъiva?тАЩтАЩ[13]
Reading, remembering, and reciting this eternal, having spoken thus, and the best among best eulogy indeed incessantly leads to purity. By the perception of Hara (┼Ъiva) an immediate state of complete devotion is achieved; no other option is needed. Just the thought of ┼Ъiva (┼Ъa┼Дkara) is enough for the people.[14]
At the time of completing the prayer, s/he who reads this song by Da┼Ыavaktra (R─Бvaс╣Зa) тАФ ┼Ъambhu shall grant him/her ┬аstable wealth including chariots, elephants and horses, and a beautiful visage.[15]
Mahaganapati Mool Mantra

Ganesha┬аMool┬а┬аMantra┬аor Beej Mantra is one of the most important┬аmantras┬аused toworship┬аLord Ganesha. It is known as the Mool/Beej Mantra because it has within it the true essence of Lord Ganesha and chanting this mantra pleases Him for being addressed the best way possible or so say legends.
Each of the words like Shreem, Hreem, Kleem Glaum Gam etc are classic phrases used in Sanskrit mantras. They address the fundamental concepts that make creation possible like desire, purity, auspiciousness and all other forms of positive energy concepts that make life and creation possible.
Chants are always repeated for a lot of times and the rhythm created produces a trance like state but not one that dulls or lulls the senses but a certain kind of trance that induces a heightened state of consciousness. Beginning from our navel, the sound is said to travel upwards through the oesophagus, into the vocal chords, finally escaping from the mouth. This energy thus generated is said to have the power to purify the body and mind, instilling positive energy that helps in the daily affairs of man.
Modern┬аscience has only begun to understand the subtle intricacy of sound waves that can be used to heal the sick, plants, and animals alike. It has been seen for instance that cows give more milk and trees bear richer fruits when subjected to good music. Every human being who has ever been interested in music would know how it has the power to influence our moods. Sometimes it reflects the exact state of our mind and sometimes, it helps in improving our state of mind.
When one cites these examples one does not talk of any particular kind of music but refers rather to specific kinds of vibrations that are produced by sound. Vedic chants are such formulaic creations, like the┬аGanesha Mantras┬аand the mool mantras of other Hindu┬аGodsand Goddesses. The composition of these mantras work at two levels:
Firstly, the meaning of each word and expression brings to the conscious mind, the various aspects of divinity that make life possible. Such information can further be interpreted in two ways; one is a religious interpretation and the other rational or philosophical, sans religious colouring. Those who believe in the divinity of the Vedic Gods follow their principles as a matter of faith and the non believers observe the philosophical significance of the principles represented by each deity. Many non-believers have been known to choose to convert to Hinduism and many more have decided to continue with their original faiths, but have benefited a lot from using the philosophical insights gained from the Vedic Gods.
Secondly the Ganesha mantras when chanted, especially the powerful ones like the Mool Mantra, generate a sonic field in and around the body of the chanter and the energy produced is capable of warding off negative forces and strengthens among other things, the immune system, the nervous system and even the circulatory systems.
Therefore when one talks of the Ganesha Mool Mantra, one should understand it is not some random incantation but is in fact a very deep and profound mixture of philosophy and science designed at least 3000 years ago for the benefit of all mankind. Religious affinity or secular curiosity, Lord GaneshaтАЩs Mool Mantra has the ability to reach out and remove the obstacles and bring material and spiritual success to one and all.

Ramnavami тАУ Birthday of Lord Rama
Lord Rama is an epitome of perfection. He is considered the perfect son, brother and an ideal husband.┬аHis calm and composing nature has made Lord Rama an ideal for generations to come. From showing utmost respects for his parents to saving his wife, Goddess Sita from Ravana, Lord Rama has always set standards of ethics. He stood strong on his principles of truth and integrity. It was his firm belief that goodness always triumphs over evil.
Today we shall be talking about Ram Navami тАУ a major Hindu festival. It is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism especially for the Vaishnava sect of Hindus.
History and Significance
Ram Navami is celebrated all over the country with great zeal and fervor. Lord Rama who is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born in human form to King Dashratha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya on this particular day. Thus, the festival is celebrated as Lord RamтАЩs birthday. Ram Navami usually falls on the 9th┬аday of the month of Chaitra (April/March) of the Hindu calendar. ┬аIt is believed that it is very auspicious day. Thus, devotees who pray with devotion and dedication attain the blessings of Lord Rama. Experts say that this day is observed as the marriage day for Lord Rama and Goddess Sita as well.
The celebrations for this all-important festival see different hues. In some parts of the country the celebrations last for the entire nine days тАУ navratras. The ninth day is marked as Ram Navami which is then celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Celebrations
India is a land of diversity. Therefore it is amazing to see how one festival is celebrated in myriad ways in different parts of the country.
The epic tale of Ramayana of which Lord Rama was the protagonist is told in all parts of the country. How truth and goodness meanders its way and reaches the pinnacle even being repeatedly crushed by evil forces is what Ramayana teaches us. It portrays Lord Rama in an all-together different light.
The most common form of Ram Navami celebrations includes singing bhajans and chants dedicated to Lord Rama. The temples are beautifully decorated with garlands of flowers. In addition to the bhajans, temples also organize Ramayana Katha in which devotees get to hear the details of the holy Hindu text. Some people perform Akhand Ramayana path while others just recite the Sunderkand. Performing Akhand Ramayana path requires reciting the entire Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas. It takes around 24 hours to perform this path. Sunderkand is the fifth book in the Ramayana. It talks about the adventures of Lord Hanuman.
People clean their houses and bring new idols of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Hanuman. Flowers and sweets are offered to the deities and incense sticks are lighted. It is said that the Ram Navami puja should be performed by the youngest female member of the family. After applying tilak to the idols and the family members, bhajans are sung. The prasad which includes fruits and sweets is distributed at the end of the puja.
In southern parts of the peninsula, people mostly perform тАШKalyanotsavamтАЩ or the marriage celebration with deities of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita on this day. At the end of the marriage ceremony, the deities are taken out to the streets in a mighty and colorful procession.
Fasting
Fasting is a major part of this festival. While some people fast on the day of Ram Navami others observe strict fast for the entire nine days тАУ navratras. It is said that if devotees observe a fast with dedication on Ram Navami they would be blessed with good health, wealth and success in the upcoming year.
There are different types of fast that one can observe on Ram Navami and during the navratras тАУ
Fasting until noon
Fasting until midnight
Eating just one meal during the day
If eating a single meal, people usually prefer eating fruits during the day. If having a full meal one can have potatoes in any form but without onion, garlic, ginger and turmeric. It is not mandatory to observe a waterless fast. Tea, coffee, juices, milk, curd and water are allowed. While preparing meals sendha namak (rock salt) should be used.
Whether you are fasting or not, if you pray with a clear conscience, Lord Rama will surely bless you with prosperity and eminence.

Although this year the festival is on February 27th. All through the month, devotees flock to┬аShivatemples to offer their atonements and seek Lord ShivaтАЩs blessings.

Shiva and Sex- 5 Secrets to Rock Your World of Intimacy!
One hears a lot about how Lord Shiva is a yogi and lives his live as an ascetic, forsaking the comforts of home and hearth. Those that do talk about the connection between Lord Shiva and domesticity, speak only of his connection to his sons Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya and a somewhat frolicsome relationship with Goddess Parvati. Very few people actually pay close attention to Lord ShivaтАЩs sex life. Anybody who knows anything about this God would know that Shiva does nothing partially. In meditation, he is known as the Yogeshwar (the Lord of meditation), in his role as a performer Shiva is Nataraja (Lord of Dance), in his absolute control over the elements that constitute life, he is Bhooteshwar (Lord of the Five Elements). These are merely examples of the thousand odd names he is given which define him as being the best at everything. So why do we shy away from his prowess in bed?
The answer is simple, according to puritanical ethics, philosophers have always tried to think of meditation and spiritual aspirations as being fundamentally different from the demands of the flesh. Lord Shiva is the one God in the entire Hindu pantheon who does not shy away from the idea of sex. In his simplicity, Lord Shiva is the closest to the common man. He has no pretensions of gentrification or any form of artifice to bind and obfuscate anything that comes naturally. As such there are things to learn from his example even when it comes to sex.
Sex by itself is not impure, evil or dirty. It is a beautiful form of self expression that opens the door to transcendence through oneтАЩs body. It is the context in which it is seen that makes it a subject of moral bias. Cut off from all socially sanctioned definitions, sex emerges as just another activity that is essential for the procreation of life and for the development of a strong bond of intimacy between lovers. We live in a day and age where it has become very important for us to dispel the myths that surround sex and try to see it for the true physical and spiritual significance it has.
Legend has it that Shiva and Parvati were as physical in their relationship as they were intellectually inclined to one another. They would disappear for years and spend time with one another exclusively. At least in one of the puranic description about Shiva we learn that on a certain occasion Shiva and Parvati were so engrossed in having sex with each other that they remained hidden from everybody for over 1000 years and at the height of their sexual prowess, their passion shook the mountains to the utter embarrassment of other Gods and Deities.
So what is the secret behind such awesome sexual prowess? How did they manage to get it on so powerfully and with grace?
Read on to know the Five things one MUST know:
Shiva and Sex тАУ 5 Secrets to Rock Your World of Intimacy!
Listen to your Partner: One of the most significant thing we ignore and Shiva never did was to listen to his partner (Parvati). Given the taboo surrounding sex, a lot of women do not talk very openly about what they seek and need sexually from their partner. It is held in popular imagination that women who talk about their sexual desires are sexually immoral and do not fit the definition of a тАШgood womanтАЩ. It is important to realize that in the privacy of oneтАЩs home and on oneтАЩs own marital bed, a woman should have the liberty to let her body speak. As her partner, the man must be able to read her body language even if she does not literally speak. Providing the scope for such exchange of information allows for the build up of mutual trust and understanding. It fights off all reservation. Once reservation is lost, natural instincts kick in and everything goes smoothly.
Talk to your Partner: Owing to various reservations about social roles men and women must play differently, women often imagine that men know what to do. They are expected to know how to be good in bed. The matter of fact is, when it comes to sex, the only way to get better at it is with experience. There is no single rule or code that all men know or which applies to all men. Each human being is an individual equipped with a unique sensibility which includes desire. Allowing social pressures and preconceived expectations to prevent the articulation of the desire is the best way to develop inadequacies and non-fulfilling experiences which in turn end up increasing oneтАЩs frustration with a relationship. Like in the point above, if verbal communication is found inadequate, one must allow oneтАЩs body to do the talking. As it begins to do that, out comes a path to a perfectly customized, sustainable method of practicing intimacy.
Ignore all Third Parties: Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati made it a point to not concern themselves with anybody about their opinions of togetherness and intimacy. Within the four walls of oneтАЩs bedroom, what one does with oneтАЩs partner is something that only the parties involved should have a say over and nobody else. Ignoring third parties include rejecting all kinds of tips and lessons other people provide trying to prescribe a certain position of a kind of rhythm or technique. The reason for this follows from points 1 and 2 above. Nobody can know more about our body and how it feels more than we do. People can only try to iterate certain statistically valid statements but there really is no secret formula that applies to everyone. Sex is an extremely personal act. An act that connects the bodies and souls of different people ending in an euphoric sense of togetherness. Absolutely nobody can have any access to anotherтАЩs life that interferes with this vital form of connection.
Stay Fit in Mind and Body: Sexual intercourse is widely acknowledged as one of the most strenuous exercise even by modern scientific studies. The physical exertion and the hormonal release that conclude a sexual encounter is said to tax the body and mind a lot. It is not by chance that people have historically associated orgasms as an out-of-body, death like experience. Vital energy is spent in the act of bringing this activity to fruition. As such it is absolutely essential to have a healthy body and an alert mind. Yoga helps in the building of the physical tenacity and meditation strengthens the mind. Lord Shiva is a master of both, as is Goddess Parvati. The Taandav dance Shiva performs and the Lasya that Parvati engenders have the effect of counter balancing each otherтАЩs energies. Both of them are extremely fit and alert people, fully in tune with their bodies and minds. It is an old adage that a healthy mind can only live in a healthy body. To extend the metaphor, one has to realize that both are needed to be vitally charged so that we may live our life to the fullest extent, enjoying the delicate craftsmanship of Nature that has built our bodies to the perfect equipoise.
Learn Daily and Inculcate: It is a human trait to get complacent. Once we make ourselves believe we are good at something we start taking things for granted and begin slacking. Intimacy and togetherness is no different from oneтАЩs ability to build ones skills of body and mind. A sword, no matter how well made, if left in disuse is bound to rust. The same holds true for a creative or intellectual genius. If s/he gets lazy and does not continue to find newer ways to learn and upgrade oneself, their brilliance fades into mediocrity, which in turn gives way to degeneration and decay. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are immortal, eternal beings still they have always found ways to improve their skills on the battle field and in tender matters of the heart. Both are fierce, unparalleled warriors and as lovers too, they have no equal. As such, one must learn from their example that it is very very important to always be open to learning new things as one goes along the curves of life, adding them all to oneтАЩs repertoire.

How Much Did Your Last Nike Cost?...
тАЬWhy is it that in spite of all the knowledge, I am still not able to live that knowledge? Why am I not healthy? Why is it that I keep getting caught up in emotions all the time and every time? Why is it that my actions keep falling short of the expectation that I have set for myself? Why am I always on a look out for some motivation whether in the form of money or a companion?тАЭ┬а
We are all haunted by these questions. But the biggest question to ask is Will we just keep asking these questions or actually take a step to find the answers?
Take a concrete step here:┬аhttp://kck.st/1gdUXmG
Our Project, The Vedanta Experience, answers all these questions and brings to light- The Ultimate Truth, the One Answer to all questions, the One Solution to all problems.┬а
It has existed since тАШalwaysтАЩ but was inaccessible to the common man. But we worked hard to create a connecting bridge between people like you and me to solve our everyday life issues through the authoritative wisdom of the Vedas.
We have taken the bold step to make its voice heard and help the world find a release from suffering permanently!
Click here and support us in the endeavor!┬аhttp://kck.st/1gdUXmG
But if you do not help us, the project will not be successful. The clock is ticking and we are running out of time! There are only 12 days left for our project to succeed and if we do not attain the goal within these 12 days, we will lose out and the Kickstarter project on The Vedanta Experience will never be able to see the light of the day!
It is a sad but true fact, that It doesnтАЩt take us long to spend $6 on an ice-cream or $160 on shoes but when it comes to knowledge and self-growth, we cringe from spending even as little as $5!
Help us to share it with as many people as possible and save our project from dying today by donating as little as $1!┬аhttp://kck.st/1gdUXmG
