But Will Graham is NOT poor.
He might've grown up poor, but that man is a FBI teacher, with multiple published books, and he is a special agent for certain cases where his ability is needed.
A quick google search tells me an average salary for an FBI profiler in Baltimore, Maryland would be: $99,461 to $128,329 a year. And an FBI teacher is the same.
Putting these together ALREADY Will Graham makes anywhere from $198,922 to $256,658 a year. NOT including royalties from his books.
However this is for people in Maryland, so for research sake I also did the same google search for Virginia. FBI profilers in Virginia can earn up to $170,000 a year, which, considering Will's length of time with the FBI and experience, the higher end of the scale would be more accurate. And for an FBI teacher in Virginia, it would be roughly: $110,538 a year.
This means that in Virginia, Will can earn up to $280,538 a year, still not including book royalties.
We cannot guess the amount of copies people have bought of Will Graham's books, but here is the list of the different percentages for each in regards to the % of royalties Will would be paid for each type of book sold:
