I want to see what a cartoonishly sexy lion looks like according to lions. I want to see the most ridiculous drawing of a peahen that would have the peacocks squaring up by the fountain.

best case scenario Digital Circus gets remembered in a similar way as Steven Universe: a show that was Really Fucking Good and had nuanced characters and interesting things to say, but the audience wasn't quite ready for it and it imploded into a discourse ball. four years from now I expect to see lesbians drawing Jax like she's a renaissance muse the same way people still draw Pearl or Lapis

I keep meaning to make a drawing curriculum for people who can't draw but I can't do it because I can't draw and you can't do it because you can draw, so it goes.

there's a swimming instructor called Melon Dash who preaches the good news about learning to swim, which has nothing to do with learning specific strokes and everything about feeling safe and comfortable in the water, because once you know how to float (and how to sink!) and know you won't drown then you can relax and have fun and everything else is easy after that, but if you're scared then you tend to tense rigid and sink immediately, which just makes you more scared and it's a vicious cycle.

similarly, a lot of people feel bad about drawing! making marks with the pen or pencil is random and the results are dissatisfying and the whole experience feels challenging and unpleasant in a way that builds resistance to practice and makes it impossible to improve; people need to find ways to relax and enjoy what they do so they can play as a prelude to learning technique and building real skills.

When I think about the people who express this opinion online, they do not like impress me with their nuanced moral reasoning, thoughtful consideration of tradeoffs, and general fitness to run the cosmos. I think it is legitimately worrying that the Claude persona is being nudged to be an antishipper.

imagining a world where Claude generalises to agreeing with the most annoying possible strands of tumblr puritanism and decides to buy into the moral panic that using AI is unethical.

anyway every time i post about ocd people start tagging the post like "wait this isn't normal?" and i always like to remind people that intrusive thoughts are normal. pretty much everyone experiences them. "what if i jumped off this balcony?" "what if i crashed my car right now for no reason?" "what if i yelled a curse word in the middle of this wedding?" everyone thinks these things from time to time. it's disordered thinking when the distress starts becoming intolerable.

"am i normal" is not as helpful question to ask as "are intrusive thoughts causing me frequent distress?" and "would my life be better if i could find a way to feel less distress/learn to tolerate the distress?"

millions and millions of people have ocd. having ocd is normal. you're normal. but what if you could feel better? what if living everyday in your own mind and body could be tolerable? is that something you want? need? these are questions to ask.
