“That is my name, this is my voice, and this is my fight. They will not win. Because defeat is not an option for me or for many other women. And if it’s necessary, I will fight until my last breath. I know there are men who see us as the enemy, and I say to them you are wrong. Because we are your daughters, your wives, your friends, your sisters so treat us as such. We can be allies. Trust us. Gives us our place. Because if you don’t, we’ll take it by force.”

It takes a lot of blows to break a heart that is in love. It takes a lot of blows to make you stop seeing with your heart. But when that heart finally breaks, it can’t be put back together.

Season 2- Chapter 16: Innocence
Lidia Aguilar and Don Carlos have a relationship with one another. After much persistence from Don Carlos in getting to know Lidia they are finally dating one another. Lidia eventually becomes pregnant by Don Carlos. The Mother of Don Carlos, Dona Carmen, gets word of the news and constructs a plan for eliminating the pregnancy. 1st she bribes Lidia with a lot of money to get a “back alley abortion”, then quickly realizes that she isn’t going to follow through with her end of the deal. Dona Carmen hires a group of men to handle the situation and has her tackled to the doctors office to perform the forced abortion, soon after Don Carlos comes to rescue Lidia. Don Carlos manages to get to Lidia just in time but is held back by the hired henchmen who then chase Lidia out of the hospital building window. She falls flat on her back but luckily doesn’t lose the baby.
Abortion is an ongoing issue, Pro abortion and anti abortion aka “Pro Choice and Pro Life.” In the 1920′s abortion was never legal for any woman. She was forced to keep every pregnancy unless by miscarriage. The reference to “back alley abortions” are the Doctors or non medical folk that would charge women to get the wished abortion due to rape, unhappy marriage or financial status. Again it reflects in today's world with us as women having little to no say about how we can decide what stays in our bodies. Our uterus is ours yet the decision lies in the hands of men.
Google- “Under the Human Life Protection Act, a doctor who performs a banned abortion in the state of Alabama would be guilty of a Class A felony, and could be sentenced to life imprisonment. Several proposed amendments that would have allowed abortions in cases of rape and incest were rejected.”

Season 2- Chapter 9: The Choice
In this episode Angeles Vidal is experiencing domestic violence from her husband, Mario and is pregnant. She feels stuck and decides that poisoning her husband is her only way out. During an at-work dinner party, Mario finds out that he is being poisoned by his wife by watching her reaction to a drink that was meant for him get spilled by another coworker. Mario drags Angeles to the top of the rooftop and begins beating her violently and kicks her repeatedly in the stomach. Angeles’s friends/ coworkers rush to her aid and in doing so, Lidia is grabbed by Mario and chokes her. Angeles makes a hasty move by batting Mario in the head with a bat that was left at the top of the rooftop from the Business President. Mario dies instantly, leaving all the girls shaken and quickly plan the disposal of Mario’s body. This scene is an example of how domestic violence can negatively affect the quality of life. The topic of this chapter is providing us information on how a man was allowed to beat his wife if she disobeyed or for any reason the husband had. Till today there are women that are battered so horribly with no way out due to fear and possible death. Even with all the support groups and resources available this is still an unfortunate reality women are faced with. Through social media we can share each other’s stories of prevailing domestic abuse and false imprisonment. The voices of women are ignored and mistreated on many levels, in the workplace, at home and even on the street. The time period of this film is in the late 1920′s yet are arguably current dilemmas such as underpayment due to being female, if an emotional outbursts occurs they are looked at as crazy, if they dream of equal opportunity then they’re delusional, if she is angered, she is considered irrational. Women are labeled constantly as “crazy” but we are the ones who create so much only to be second. The future is female!
