i know Damian grew up in a fucked up environment n' shit but i still cannot deal with how his personality is used in fanfiction, like he's so Dwight Schrute coded and it's so fucking funny. i have to imagine that he knew full well how odd he seems to the average person and puts it on in exaggerated ways specifically because he knows it makes Jason laugh and he's trying to make him break character while they're training/working for the league. like. have you ever watched the Jim and Dwight bloopers from the office us? that's Jason and Damian trying to focus on a serious loa job but they can't even make it five minutes without Damian fully fucking up Jason's concentration on purpose.
*at the training grounds*
Jason, sparring with Damian when they see a fellow assassin walking througu the courtyard: hey, where are you off to?
Assassin: overnight job to take out a local politician in Zimbabwe.
Damian, fully sombre: may you fight with the strength of ten full grown men.
Jason, biting his lip to desperately stop himself from laughing at the exchange: o-ok-... uhm-
Damian, not blinking: should you succeed, you shall earn honor and women from your homelands.
Assassin: why are you always like this.
Jason: *bursts into uncontrollable giggles, covering his face with his hands*
Damian: *uses the advantage to pin Jason to the floor and win the spar*
*Jason and Damian meeting a new tutor for the first time*
Tutor: before we begin, i would like a comprehensive of all combat abilities you possess so i am aware of what needs to be worked on in order to bring you both up to Al Ghul standards.
Damian, face fully straight, without hesitation: i am capable of any type of combat you may require, as well as 12 different types you won't require.
Jason, for the sake of enabling: and what are those 12?
Damian, emphasising dramatically: shooting darts through BAMBOO sticks, DANCE fighting, i am also very good at slapping people with FISH-,
Jason, already ducking away to wheeze into his hands:
Tutor, mystified: when would you need to slap somebody with a fish?
Damian, innocently: when they dishonour me on a fishing trip, or force my hand at a fish market. *turns to Jason* it happens more often than you'd expect.
Jason, weeping: stop, please...
Ra's: i don't understand how it can take you both over three hours to carry out a simple interrogation!
Jason, pointing at Damian: HE KEPT MAKING THAT FACE I LIKE.
Damian: the face i use when i have to introduce myself as the Demon's heir. he thinks its funny.
Jason: WELL IN MY DEFENCE SO DID THE GUY WE WERE INTERROGATING-!
Ra's: ok you two are banned from working together.
by the time Damian's in Gotham he's gotten the royal Al Ghul persona down to a T, and the only reason he uses it around the Waynes is because the only thing funnier than distracting Jason with it is the fact that these people think that's his actual personality. Jason shows up and starts laughing at everything Damian does and they have no fucking idea why. to them that's just who Damian is point blank, and Jason knowing that makes it seem SO much funnier to him.
