When I was a teenager I had a phase where I called soccer football because the rest of the world called it that but eventually my dad told me “You know, there’s a point where acting smart doesn’t make you smart and just makes you annoying. Anyways as a teenager I think I was trying to find small ways to make myself feel like I was smarter than other people but tbh my dad was right, even though I didn’t wanna admit it at the time.

At a certain point performatively doing stuff to make you sound more cultured and educated than other people just kinda makes you annoying and also shows off that you’re not willing to adjust to the most common practices where you are. You’re just creating friction for the sake of it and not really accomplishing anything.

General thought process: Shen Jiu goes out to look at a suspicious tea merchant family.

Finds out the eldest son likes crossdressing and is a demonic cultivator to boot.

Uncle has been grooming him to be a family assassin so his eldest son can take the reins.

Shen Jiu meets the kid and sees more of the Qius than himself.

Takes in kid to get that out of him.

Also because he's smart, hates brutish men, respects women, and is a snake in the grass.

Could be useful. Especially with the blackmail he has on him.

Ming Fan genuinely doesn't understand romance and sees how Shen Jiu engages with Liu Qingge and Yue Qingyuan and concludes, on seeing Luo Binghe, that men like to be treated like trash.

It worked for Shizun, it'll work for him.

Hjinks ensued.
