I just wanna rant so I'm gonna speak with the void again!
React videos!
I think react videos are an interesting subject. To be clear though, I do not support lazy react content like xqc. What I want to talk about is reaction content I think we should talk about more and support.
I love watching people who are experts in a field react to content and bring their view into the conversation. Engineers reacting to home makeover videos and talking about the physics over the renovations and how the design changes will affect how the home is used and stuff. This in my mind (if done correctly) is transformative content. Because you get to learn a lot about something from the reaction.
I think watching a video and plain old reacting is worthless, but by essentially giving a lesson it becomes worth something.
One great example is this doctors reaction to "cells at work". It encouraged me to watch the anime because his videos are shorter than the episode despite the fairly long breaks in his video to do things like draw cells and bacteria. Easy to say there was plenty of reason to watch both his reaction, and the show. (I think he also skipped some episodes but it's been 6 years so I don't remember)
I think we should try and support this kind of reaction video. Stuff that is genuinely transformative, and maybe teaching you something on the way.
This isn't just for science stuff either. Watching a pastor, or set designer watch videos to explain what's going on can be really interesting.
My general rule for if it's good is if they are picking specific moments of a video to react to because it opens up an interesting topic instead of just showing the whole video, and they talk about stuff beyond what the original content shows. That's why I used the example of an engineer explaining the physics behind renovations, instead of just saying if it looks good or not. That isn't to say they can't also have moments where they say they like something, but i think moments beyond the original content are the best part.
Go watch experts in a field react to stuff, it's really cool.
