A Little Bit of Magic

I finally finished this piece that I have been working on for awhile! I was inspired to do a sailor scout version of Taylor Swift. I was listening to her new album, looked up at the Sailor Moon picture on my wall and inspiration was born! I based her look on her debut album, taking inspiration from all her music videos from that album. I was thinking of doing a series but we will see!

Maybe it's just me but..

Pardon the rant, but there's one thing that really bugs me when reading a historical novel. I can live with inaccuracies and creative liberties because I know I'm reading a piece of fiction based on a person. But when I notice a glaring mistake in the family tree provided at the beginning of a book, it throws me off my reading game.

I'm currently reading a new novel that was just released in North America about Anne of Cleves and in her family tree, it states she has a sister named Amalia. Now in the tree provided, its says that this sister was born in 1503, which would make her the eldest of the four siblings. But literally 8 pages in, it states this same sister is 12. This book opens in the year of 1530 which would make her 27 not 12. And with a simple Google search, I found multiple sources stating that she was actually born in 1517.

I know this is probably just an editing error but it really dampened my excitement for this new book. But then again maybe it's just me.

After watching the The Spanish Princess, I have decided to view it as an alternate history since it deviates a lot from actual history. Despite the historical inaccuracies, the weird pacing, the squeezing of the timing of events (which should have spanned over several years), the many missing people, and the inconsistencies from the previous shows, the one thing that bothers me the most is how rude they make Catherine out to be. I'm sure they were trying to show how immovable and headstrong she was, but damn she was never that rude. She showed great respect for the people who were to be her new family and she was stubborn yes, but not to the point as to be disrespectful. Like jeez.

Decided to actually try and color a piece to see if I could. Didn't turn out so bad. I played around with a modern Rei Hino aka Sailor Mars. Had fun with this one!

Finally was able to complete the most recent portrait practice I started. It took me a little longer to finish as my wrist is having issues once again and I had to take a lot of breaks including a few days of not working on it. (😑) I had fun with this one, granted I had to redo the hair a few times! I'm not sure of the source of the photo I used as reference as I found it on pinterest and there's no link to the original...

Basically every artist I know (including myself) bemoans that they need to practice drawing backgrounds, but then never DOES it… so I’m setting aside a week to do just that! Background Blitz Week will run from March 25th to March 31st, 2018 and has the following goals:

draw to completion at least one environment a day

learn how to ration time and figure out what you can realistically accomplish in a single day’s drawing

learn what you like and dislike about environment drawing– savor the good bits, and learn how to speed up the parts you hate so you spend less time doing them

If you’re into daily themes, here’s a good starter list:

I decided to make a spread for all the books I want to read. I put down a hundred as my goal, but I’m pretty sure I won’t make it ^_^ 

do you have any recommendations? I like books that are sort of philosophical or historical, but I also love fantasy books. i’d really like to read a book about indian-americans (as in India from Asia, not Native Americans)! haven’t found one yet :|
