like the devils minion stuff and fan reaction being so weirdly positive fully feels like the moment the show knows it can truly just give up on itself and sell purely the idea of scenes rather than reality and all people want are a series of lists confirming or denying their stupid theories it was such a weird distillation of everything in the damn season like daniels insane string of racist and homophobic remarks played as a coy joke mixed with dialogue that feels dragged straight from a twitter joke compilation post when season 2 was airing all just to tell not show some dumbass twist that had zero build up to just look at the camera and say hello devils minion super fans i know you read that chapter even if u read nothing else in the entire book series look u get baffling collection of list of things that happened in the devils minion chapter that makes zero sense with their current iteration such as turning on a private jet why our daniel would get on a private jet with the vampire hes actively terrified of has no good memories of and assumes wants to kill him for blowing up his life is a question we might never answer arent you happy about that and that all this is purely just standing there telling u all these massive important radical shifts in their relationship that we are not seeing and frankly since people seem to work themselves into a froth over just getting told about why on earth would they ever need to show this and even if its shown we now see the new state of flashbacks on the show being short disjointed and pointless its like such a perfect distilled nugget of this deranged twitter forward miserable unpleasant writing style they have wholeheartedly embraced this season of bad jokes meant to be said by someone with the username uwuprincessminion and a pink heart filter lestat icon or whatever than professional tv writers the way they entirely discount two seasons of work on loumand for an off screen nothing relationship for fan approval that they are now just being racist for fun i guess and that armand is reduced to nothing but ship fodder for daniel and its simply so fucking insane!

there is a rule to making a good adaptation: if you want to make a major change, what you come up with has to be as good or better than what the source material did

taking white 1791 plantation owner Louis and turning him into a black man living in Jim Crow america? upgrade!

taking 5 year old Claudia’s struggle about how she will never be independent or viewed as an adult and turning her into a queer black teenage girl who can pass as old enough but still struggles with her independence from her parents and sexuality? equally interesting stories! (though i do think in some parts them trying to stick to book plotlines weighed her new story down)

Taking a complex character like Gabrielle, who struggles with her gender, weighed down by societal expectations as an unwilling wife and mother and turning her into a hypersexual milf who didn’t seem to particularly struggle with enforcing her will on her family? this imperfect victim character who is abused and who fosters an unhealthy incestuous dynamic with her son because of their mutual trauma, only to leave him behind shortly after leaving the oppressive environment that bound them because she realized how little they actually have in common, adapted into a series of sex jokes and wound fondling

a downgrade, at least to me

the thing is, even if they do end up pulling the “it was all unreliable narration, none of this happened that way” twist (again), i don’t want to spend the season watching multiple different versions of the same thing over and over again, it gets tiresome, especially when you don’t have the mystery aspect of deliberate planted inconsistencies between the two story timelines (like the contrast between Armand’s San Francisco/dubai behavior/general power level and his portrayal in the interview)
