Now, I’m going to preface this by saying that I’m certainly not the most observant person in the world and I’m that person who watches a tv show featuring a character who is highly observant and feel like I could be and should be doing better. Being simultaneously impressed by them (yes, I know it’s a script) but also worried about not using my brain to the fullest of its capacity - whatever that is (maybe I am and I’m not that bright - also an option).
There are so many people on the internet that come to so many conclusions based on seemingly nothing so I don’t get how they aren’t able to do the same thing based on what they can see. Like:
1. The fact that every time Catherine steps out, there is almost always a guarantee that she’ll touch her stomach in a self-soothing gesture on more than one occasion. Significantly more than she ever did as a publicly thrice-pregnant person (you know, when a lot of normal people do heavily touch their stomachs). It’s certainly not something she did that often prior to last year. It is public knowledge that she had major abdominal surgery, found out she had cancer after the results of that surgery came out (so it’s very likely that her cancer was close, if not exactly, in that region).
2. She’s not back to her pre-cancer weight.
3. Has yet to do a single physically tasking engagement since last year. Which, for another person, I wouldn’t count but FOR HER - if you know even the slightest bit about her hobbies, lifestyle and engagement types - is quite telling.
4. She does look extremely tired sometimes while out at public engagements even if all she’s done at them is sit, listen and walk. Sometimes even before she's done those things.
5. She’s doing a lot of repeating and patterned things in terms of dressing. Yes, she’s always been that way inclined but it’s undeniable that it’s at an increased frequency - with her largely choosing to be even more covered up than before.
It’s like last year when I was baffled at other people not having guessed cancer or some serious illness but were guessing everything from divorce, abuse, tummy tucks to bad hairstyles. It’s like, yes, for the most part, she looks healthy but if you’re in this space, I’d personally like to know how some people came to the conclusion that she’s back to normal because, to me, there are so many signs that she’s not (and probably wishes every day that she was).
By the way, I never thought that she was back to normal because I’ve spent too much time on cancer forums and have had one-on-one experience with various members of my family but I’m also not immune to thinking “Kate is back” sometimes and then I observe something that brings me back to reality. A great example being her solo trip to Wales this year. She looked great, she sounded like herself and all was well. Then she decided to get out of her car and run to a little girl who had been shouting her name from a distance. She did what one would assume would be instinctive for her and something I’ve seen her do before. She started lightly running but stopped very soon afterwards. And touched her stomach. Not once, but twice. Going as far as to cover her stomach with her coat and two hands the second time. Like I said, I would not have thought twice about another kind of person doing that. But this is Kate “seems to generally do well in most sports/might have been a professional athlete in another life” Middleton. Hell, even she thought that she could run the tiny distance without slightly wincing and needing to stop and she clearly couldn’t. And it’s an image that has stayed in my brain for months.
Why isn’t it clicking that she is largely operating on half, if not less sometimes, of what she was prior to the start of 2024?
