I’ve never seen a kid struggle with the concepts of someone being gay, trans, or nonbinary.

I did once have to explain to an almost 3 year old why a chihuahua wasn’t a cat and let me tell you THAT was a struggle and the kid was very mad about it.

I think it’s okay for villains to do good things, as long as we realize that one or two good deeds does not make them a good person. Take Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow for example. He’s a deplorable monster who uses people for his own selfish needs. But when the take came for him to act, he saved a girl from her rapist. Of course, he did that in the most villainous way possible, by torturing the boy with his fear toxin…but I digress.

It’s one of his most profound stories, and one that the fans adore. And even knowing that, most people prefer his more villainous side. They LIKE it when he’s evil. Yet even the fandom has bounties. As a whole we’ve agreed that Jonathan Crane does not directly attack children, even though he’s done just that in canon comics.  Sure, he’s evil…but he has boundaries. Why attack a harmless, easily scared child when you could target a corrupt politician and make a statement on bullying?

He’s a good villain because he’s complex. He can still be evil and be against rape. Everyone has lines they won’t cross, even villains.

Let villains be evil. But also, let them have some morals. A villain who is 100% pure evil is fine and all and there are interesting and unique villains who fall under that umbrella, but when you mix in some good and create a person who still has morals left in their cold heart, you have created an great character.

Why does everyone think fiction is just fantasy wish fulfillment now and not like an exploration of themes and ideas

People will be like “this movie is evil and gross because it depicts a predatory relationship” and then you watch the movie in question and it’s about how preying on young women is bad and impacts their lives negatively
