@santapedra
proxy relationship not a trope to anyone else but me which is a shame. Does no one else care abt the beautiful dynamic potential of conducting an entire shameful affair with someone just to get closer to their partner...Indirect kiss through some other guy. Possibilities !
some dynamics under this umbrella (feel free to add more im gonna forget some)
a wants b, b is with c, and a cant have b, so a gets with c
a and b both want c so they form a relationship out of mutual Well You Also Know C So You Get It And Also You Are Close As I Can Reallt Get To Them
a and b both want Each Other but they dont believe they can do that (whether or not theyre right is frankly irrelevant!! i dont care if they are cursed or just stupid) so they use c as a vehicle for their relationship
"this sounds really toxic and objectifying"yeapppp. 👍
IMPORTANT ALSO THANK YOU PIPER !!
as a rule it's always more interesting when two people who know each other outlive a third person that they both loved and then their relationship becomes So Much Weirder and more emotionally fraught, entangled, and charged when that third person dies
waiter! waiter! more characters grieving something they can't even remember please!

Character who's a third wheel, but in the same way that a tricycle has three wheels. You technically might be able to remove him, but it's going to be a lot less stable and a lot more likely to result in someone's death if you do.

"How to Tell a True War Story" from The Things They Carried, by Tim O'Brien (prose): If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie.

‘the protagonist should be endearing and relatable’ the protagonist should make the audience scream and start banging on the one-way glass of the fourth wall. the protagonist should burn their entire life down and make the world’s worst sandcastle from the ashes. if they aren’t the cause of at least 50% of their own problems what are we doing here
hey bro qick question .do i seem like a person to you
I love it when characters have some kind of weird bond between them. Psychic bonds, telepathic links, empathy links, soul bonds, and whatever else. What if you were always aware of the people you loved? What if you could feel their presence in a way beyond the five senses? What if they could never fully hide themselves from you? What if you could never fully hide yourself from them?
I'm still going through all the Pasithea Patreon bonus content, but my favorite piece of lore I've seen there so far is about death customs on Cassandra. Instead of burial, human remains are typically cremated and then the ashes are pressed into a diamond, which is crafted into a piece of jewelry called a memento mori. The whole process is called iprimatur.
I enjoy this immensely because:
From a sci-fi world building perspective it's cool AF
I get to headcanon that Jane has the memento mori from Evelyn's funeral service. His parents splashed out to have a really nice one made despite not having any remains to cremate, and then they never collected it from the funeral home afterwards. It's the only personal belonging the queen's guard allowed Jane to keep after her arrest.
Just remembered about all of this the other day, and I'm here to tell you it's still cool AF.
