kokichi as a character makes me so fucking emotional dude. I wanna know what that guy acts like behind closed doors, when the curtains are dropped and he doesn't have to lie or perform anymore—because really, I do think it's all an act. method acting, sure, and like hell, but acting nonetheless.
I've made a post before about how I'd absolutely class him as a classic antihero, and I just keep coming back to it. he's got a noble goal in mind (ending the killing game, even if part of his motive is spite against monokuma and the mastermind) and questionable methods of achieving it (constantly lying, goading gonta into killing miu, kidnapping kaito and forcing him into what was effectively assisted suicide).
as much as this guy prattles about and does his best to draw attention to himself, he HATES being watched. he flipped his shit when he realized it was all a game and that monokuma only followed the rules because someone was watching.
and yes, I believe very firmly that kokichi always knew and even intended for shuichi to figure out that it was he who died. kokichi honestly thought very highly of shuichi and his abilities, and thought that he'd be smart enough to figure out his plan to rig the trial and go along with it. he thought so highly of shuichi, in fact, that he overestimated him.
not that that isn't partially kokichi's fault as well, because it absolutely is. kokichi's crucial mistake throughout the entirety of his plan is that he was too good, and he played too well into the mastermind role. if he wanted shuichi to believe in him enough to consider his real motive, then he needed to give shuichi an actual reason to have that much faith in him. but kokichi made himself out to be so cruel and antagonistic that no one could see him as anything but the villain. it's why he had to resort to suicide to make his plan work in the first place—no one would willingly cooperate with him.
kokichi was just so fucking good. horrifyingly intelligent, always thinking ahead. if he'd left just a few more bread crumbs, maybe things would've panned out. ohh he makes me sick
You guys think Himiko is afraid of the dark after chapter 3? Do you think she can't fall asleep out of sheer terror because, the last time she slept, she woke up to one of her best friends dead? And the last time she was engulfed in darkness, another one of her friends was killed just a few feet away from her?
You guys also think that Maki would be hypervigilant about knowing where Shuichi and Himiko were constantly? Not out of control, but just knowing where they are and what they're doing and when they'll be home so she knows they're safe. Do you think she downloaded tracking apps on Shuichi and Himiko’s phones to keep tabs on them, just in case?
Do you also think Maki spirals into crises about her feelings toward other people, because she doesn't know if theyre real or just remnants from the mastermind's control over her?
Do you think Shuichi overthinks everything constantly because he still has that need to know the answer as a survival tactic? Do you think he picks apart people's mannerisms and tiny actions on a daily basis because it might come in handy when they need to fight for their lives?
Ok so first of all there's the direct obvious evidence
For example, the famous instance where Shuichi is explicitly shown to think about a sex change in her future. No cisgender man thinks about that, let's be real. Open and shut case tbh tbh tbh
Also famous, that time Tsumugi asks Shuichi what she'd want to cosplay and the correct answer is a girl. Shuichi says this of her own free will. On top of this, the other two options (A realistic school uniform and a knight) are extremely generic. A girl is, of course, even more generic. This means that Shuichi would be fine with any character so long as they are a girl! Tsumugi says "I see, I can understand wanting to cosplay something very different from you!" and then only recommends male characters because she's evil and transphobic.
These two pieces of evidence are, honestly, more than enough to conclude that she's trans. But here's more anyway!
Most of the other evidence is less conclusive, but you need more than just a smoking gun to build a case.
For example, Shuichi staring at the girls bathroom for some reason even she is unaware of. Given the other two points of evidence, this is likely her yearning to use it instead of the boys! I honestly dunno what other reason there would be.
Girl what the hell are you talking about. A playful statement made in jest? I think not! She wishes to stop using the boys bathroom!
Girl can't *stop* thinking about using the girls bathroom, honestly
Next up is all the times *other* characters say some wild shit about her
For example, like half of what comes out of Tenko's mouth. Such as her wondering if Shuichi is actually a girl!
Or her famously telling Shuichi to transition! Maybe if more people brought this up she actually would. She's already thinking about it!
Or the *other* time Tenko told her to transition.
She says she'll think about it btw
Moving on from Tenko, Korekiyo also has something to say!
...Honestly, probably for the best that she *not* come out to him.
This ones pretty flimsy, but Ryoma does comment on Shuichi having girly tastes!
Also flimsy, but Miu does accuse Shuichi of not being a dude when she's uninterested in her inventions.
Going back to the whole bathroom thing, while investigating it Himiko has some bonkers stuff to say to her. Genuinely what the hell does she mean by future reference. Does she know Shuichi is constantly thinking about the girls bathroom? Is she trying to be supportive.
Next up is, honestly, just nonsense that I wanna include.
Like that time Kokichi was just talking some bullshit in the official anthology manga. He gets like 4 different students wondering if Shuichi is actually a girl.
Or this one which legit isn't actually related but it's funny. Why does everyone think about Shuichi being a girl so much. Do they know?
This one is outright completely out of context. It shows up if you say a knight to the cosplay question. Tsumugi is just comparing wanting to be a knight to wanting to be a princess. I'm including it for the agenda. However! Look at her face! She's clearly in distress at not saying she wants to cosplay as a girl! Good enough!
Now, for my final piece of evidence. The finishing blow. The mallet to the egg, if you will.
Lets look at ahoges.
Makoto's ahoge. It is thick! Pointy! Hard angles!
Hajime's ahoge! It is similarly thick, pointy, hard angles!
Now, a woman's ahoge! Komaru's is thinner! A softer, smoother angle! It swerves instead of points!
Toko's ahoge! Thin, soft and smooth, swerves!
Keebo's ahoge! A hard angle, looks like it could take your eye out! it's not as thick as Makoto or Hajime's but it is still markedly different from the girls so far. (It's thinner cuz Keebo is lowkey non-binary)
Speaking of white haired characters with unique ahoges, Nagito's! It's *soft*, but in a very different way from the girls. Honestly, I interpret his ahoge as being what happens to a normal guy's ahoge when you're super unhealthy like Nagito is.
Kaede's ahoge! An even softer smoother swerve than Komaru and Toko's ahoges! It is just as thin! Truly, this is the consistent way the series depicts women's ahoges.
Now, the final ahoge. The one belonging to our main girl Shuichi herself.
Thin!
Soft angle!
It swoops!
Shuichi has a female ahoge! Do I even need to say anything more? The evidence doesn't lie!
do you have any fic recommendations for post-game v3? or specifically with kokichi? ^^

i wish there were more fics JUST exploring kokichi's side of things without ships as the focus, but these are all very good! :)
I think about Kokichi and Kaito's Love hotel events a lot...They're literally eachothers ideal by the way they describe stuff XD
He likes the rivals to lovers trope huh? Although he likes a very specific version of it apparently since Kaito likes it when they’re too similar.
intriguing :)
Kaito with his rivalry fantasy, wanting to race/chase while Kokichi enjoys being pursued/chased is just *Chefs kiss*
Reminds me of that Chapter 4 scene...
If i remember right these two are also the only ones who pretty much run out of the room instead of staying there with Shuichi which i found interesting?
-Kaito Love hotel-
"Kaito marched to the exit, and I hurried after him."
-Kokichi Love hotel-
"Kokichi didn't answer as he sprinted towards the exit."
I’m excited to say this is only part of my submission, because me and @danniwithaneye are working on an Oumota visual novel for this event!
Unfortunately due to time limits it won’t be finished for a bit longer, so the visual novel will be submitted late. But for now, we hope you all enjoy this art piece for the game! 💜
