You are missing the point as usual. Whether the 84 blogs were Russian or not is irrelevant the fact that Tumblr singled out blogs that promoted social justice and BLM is chilling, especially since they refuse to delete Nazi accounts. People are rightly concerned because this is the first step toward eliminating leftist voices here, especially since they won't say how they made this decision
Ok, once again, the blogs in question were not just “Russian,” they were created and run by the Internet Research Agency (IRA). a company that has, for years, been working on behalf of the Russian government and various Russian business interests by posting Russian propaganda on western social media. There are literally over a thousand professional internet trolls employed by the IRA. They’re not regular Russian citizens who just have an interest in social justice or BLM. In the case of tumblr, as well as Facebook and twitter, these accounts pretended to be American black activists to build credibility so that people would also spread their propaganda posts as well. The social justice posts they made may have been legitimate and positive (though in the case of Facebook, Russian trolls actually created events urging people to protest, and at least in one case when violent confrontations broke out, subsequently blamed the protesters they had recruited). But their goal was to gain followers and credibility, not promote the movement. That is literally what people, generally government agents, who infiltrate social justice movements do. I am honestly floored by the idea that people who know this is a thing steadfastly refuse to believe it could be done by any other entity than the US government. The people who are talking about tumblr deleting these blogs because they’re “leftist” or “pro-BLM” and acting if this came out of nowhere are obscuring the context intentionally.
Tumblr’s investigation was almost definitely the result of a subpoena from the federal investigation, and out of literally millions of blogs, tumblr found 84. Either the Russian operation was very limited here (and it’s entirely possible that’s true) or their “investigation” was perfunctory and limited to identifying urls or IP addresses that matched those of other social media accounts that were already identified as trolls on other platforms. I know that people are making a huge deal of how tumblr didn’t reveal its methodology, but like, there is information out there about how investigators have identified troll blogs and bots. And as I asked yesterday, has anyone come forward and claimed that those accounts were theirs and wrongly terminated?
I agree they do need to delete Nazi blogs, or at the very least enforce its community guidelines against them, though I do think suspect if they were more vigorous about enforcement there’s a pretty good chance, given the culture of this site, that blogs that do not actually violate guidelines would end up being removed. But there’s no evidence that tumblr has ever targeted legitimate leftist blogs here, even though people are convinced otherwise. People were convinced that tumblr was unfollowing people from the net neutrality tag (it wasn’t) which was a mess of bad posts urging people to do pointless things like call the Supreme Court. The only reason they took action against these blogs was because of the investigation and their desire to limit bad PR, not because they give a shit about your stupid Stalin fandom blog.

Shoutout to the Russian agent who picked urls like “fullyfurrymiracle,” “ufo-pilot-and-his-sexy-spouse,” and “feelmydragonballs”
is your landlord just bad, or are they “posting fucking sigils on your door” bad
Like I can’t get over how a landlord, an adult human, did this
No use crying over Cursed Milk
i did not need to be aware of this terminology
using the force to jack off is the most powerful dark side ability and every time a jedi is turned to the dark side it’s because they succumbed to the temptation of using the force to jack off and it makes them incredibly powerful but at the cost of their own humanity
