“Emmeline.” Dorcas looked up at the voice, a smile spreading across her face. She was pretty chuffed with the partner given to her for the assignment. It could have been a lot worse. She had watched some of her housemates uneasily walk away with their Slytherin partners. Doe was friendly with a lot of people from a lot of different houses, but for some reason, somehow, this year just felt different. “Yeah, I guess we are partners.” The blonde tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, gathering her notebook and pencil as she stood up.

“I will write it out properly, just gonna do a draft first.” Doe explained sheepishly, sticking the pencil in her ponytail. It wasn’t uncommon for her to get stick from her classmates for using a pencil.

It would be good to get to know Dorcas better and it made her assignment a fairly easy one. “How have you been? Did you have a good summer?” Emmeline noticed the pencil that Doe had pushed into her ponytail and tilted her head to the side out of curiosity. Plus, she found the way the other had it tucked in to look rather adorable. “Is that one of those pencil things? I’ve never used one. Are they easier to use than quills?” She truly wanted to know because anything that made taking notes in class go by quicker would be a godsend.

Anna found it comforting in a way that her brother had been partnered with one of her dearest friends. “What all did you learn about him?” She almost wondered if she knew both of them well enough that she could have given them each the answers they needed, but she was glad they had spent that time together. “Good, I want you with me all night.” There was no one else she would rather spend her time with than Will and Ottie. “Yes, I need to tell you about it! It was beautiful. Truly magnificent.”

“I like your optimism,” he grinned as his head lowered, forehead lightly pressing against hers. Just having her this close always brought him a sort of solace. He wouldn’t allow himself to think about the fact his parents were still looking for someone for him to marry. “Flattery will get you everywhere,” he replied, his index finger gently tapping her nose. “You look even more incredibly beautiful each and every day.”

She loved him, she really & truly did. He made her happier than she had ever thought she could be. Yes, he also aggravated her more than anyone else could, especially when they were on one of their infamous breaks (she didn’t like to think about those times). But, Emmeline could honestly say she would not trade Sterling for anyone or anything in the world. “Apparently it will get me some very sweet compliments. Ones that I think earn my very gorgeous and amazing boyfriend some kisses.” She gave him a tiny wink before stretching her neck upwards a bit to capture his lips with her own.

“Laertes.” She smiled slightly. Ottie would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy the attention he was giving her, she just wasn’t sure how to react to it. “Oh merlin help you. He’s probably off snogging Bellatrix in some corridor,” shaking her head she snarled. “Disgusting.”

“Belby? Be careful with that one.” Anna had a smiled on her face as she spoke the words, though. She knew Ottie could hold her own, even against the resident Hogwarts playboy. “I’m just hoping I can track him down long enough to get the answers I need.” She had heard rumors about Rod, but Anna went about everything with an open mind.

Florence smiled sweetly and nodded in agreement with the young girl’s sentiment. “I definitely do, hence my being in favor of the endeavor. I’m glad to see there are students excited to partake, I know getting out of one’s comfort zone isn’t always easy.”

Professor McCormack was one of Anna’s favorites, she was younger which she felt gave her a better understanding of the students. “I think the whole thing is going to be grand!” She couldn’t wait to get to know some more people. “My mum always says she doesn’t believe I have a comfort zone.”

“I suppose so - honestly I’d rather get to know people in a less… intimate setting. I don’t want people’s first impression of me to be when I’m about to go to sleep or when I first wake up, and that’s also not the aspect of them I’m interested in meeting at first.” It wasn’t that Narcissa was an intimate person - though she was, to be sure, and if she had the choice she would only let the closest of her friends even see her in a pyjama, let alone sleeping- but appearances were important, first impressions even more, and she didn’t like to have to make such an effort to uphold it during the one moment of the day where she ought to be able to let it go. Her main complaint about this, though, was that a perfect alternative to this already existed: balls were made to meet new acquaintances, and she resented being deprived of the opportunity of one.

“A ball would have been a much better idea, but, well, we’ll have to do our best with what we have.”

Anna had never been concerned with what state people saw her in. It was part of her carefree nature, or maybe it was her way of viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses. “Hm, I never thought if it that way. I just like the idea of a sleepover!” After all, once the pairing event was through and you had gotten the answers that were needed, you didn’t have to spend time with anyone outside of your friend group. “A ball would have been been fun, though!” Anna could imagine twirling around in some elaborate gown and made a mental note to make this as a suggestion for the next get together. Though, she was beginning to think all of her suggestions were starting to get on McGonagall’s nerves over the years.

“It is,” Ottie nodded. “Though i think my partner is more interested in getting into my sleeping bag than getting to know me,” she chuckled. “Who are you paired with?”

“Who are you partnered with?” Anna had a few guesses if it was someone that was trying to get lucky during the sleepover. “I’m paired with Rodolphus Lestrange. I have tried to track him down, but he seems to be avoiding me.” It wouldn’t deter her, though.

Anna giggled at his words, knowing that meeting knew people and socializing wasn’t at the top of Will’s priority list. But, he always came with her when she asked and she appreciated it more than she would ever be able to put into words. “You can always stick with me the whole night. Plus, it looks like you are paired with my brother, so that’ll be a breeze. He loves to talk about himself so it should be easy to get answers.” She kidded, everyone knew that while he and Sterling bickered, they loved one another dearly.

Sterling made a good point, someone would surely notice them. “I guess I will just have to settle with putting my sleeping bag right next to yours and if they both unzip late into the evening, making one big sleeping bag, well who knows how a thing like that would happen?” Emme relaxed into his embrace, linking her arms around his neck. “That’s what I like to hear. Have I told you how handsome you look tonight?”

“Do you think anyone would notice if I slipped into your sleeping bag later?” Emme teased, greeting her boyfriend with a kiss on the cheek. “I will say, I am excited for the chance to get to spin around the dance floor.”

As if a sleepover wasn’t odd enough, they had added in the obligatory homework of sorts. Though, Emmeline didn’t really mind. She was friendly enough with most of everyone and while she hadn’t spent that much time with Dorcas, she knew her and Sterling were close. Spotting the blonde from across the room, Emme made her way over, a genuine smile on her face. “Hey, Dorcas! It seems we are partners for the evening!”
