Back from a weekend at the farm. Those pics are coming. Managed to squeeze in a short run on the beach before sunset. It would have been a longer run, but I kept stopping and staring in awe.

New friends and new experienced at the Red Location Backpackers in New Brighton Township.
South African Chris took us on a detour to visit PE's old soccer stadium. When the new one was built for the World Cup in 2010, this one was abandoned. Perfect movie set...
Filming with Lindsey and Jones at a soup kitchen in Walmer Township.
I think our new colleague/friend at NMMU would fit in well in the NKU Com Department!
Filming a jazz rehearsal this morning at NMMU. Many thanks to the students there for letting us invade!
Screening of “The Creators”, a doc on South African artists. But of course, it was about a whole lot more. As all good docs are.
Morning lecture at NMMU on South African politics.
Off to another lovely start today!
Sunday Funday! This next week is going to be extremely busy and jam-packed, so today, we had the day off. This meant I got to go for an AMAZING run along the ocean with fellow runners Carrie and Sam. The weather was perfect and the scenery kept almost making me trip as I jogged forward with my head turned to the beach. We followed that up with a lovely breakfast and a stroll down the boardwalk to the Sunday Market. Many wonderful trinkets and souvenirs were found. I had ice cream. Groups then split off to do various activities, but I went with Derek to go see Godzilla. Since I have little nice to say about the film, I’ll just leave it at that. Enjoy the pics of this gorgeous day.
Day 1: a rather relaxed day getting to know the NMMU campus and grocery shopping (always weird in a different store than you are used to, let alone a different country). Time to catch some zzzs and get our game faces on. Filming starts tomorrow in earnest!
Beautiful morning with the crew in PE! It’s our “off day” and we are headed for shopping and beach bumming. :)
I’m a little behind on posts due to some connectivity issues, but here are some pics from our second day here. After a quick morning stop at NMMU for a lecture on South African history and politics, we embarked on a walking tour of Port Elizabeth with our wonderful guide, Bradley. After exploring the city center and traversing Route 67 - an arts trail (and a GREAT lunch at a local café), he took us to a township were we met Patrick Pasha, a jazz musician and political activist. Both gentlemen laid down some serious knowledge on the culture and people of South Africa. The contrast in voice from the morning lecture to the afternoon excursion provided us all with different perspectives, and no matter which one you agreed with more, they both informed each other and provided an incredibly rich arena for questions to surface and understanding to grow. We are off to an amazing start here.
First breakfast in Port Elizabeth. Great food, great coffee, great value...oh, and the company was pretty OK, too. :)
