Oh look a post for me
Death being portrayed as friendly, sympathetic, and helpful is one of my favorite tropes in all of fiction, especially when Death is acting that way towards someone who is dying or has recently died.
so true
“notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.”

i literally cannot wrap my head around the notion that there’s been a “decline” in “real art.” that music is shitty now, that books aren’t what they used to be, etc etc etc.
art is more broadly accessible than ever. it’s unbelievable. it’s divine. there’s so much art on this planet right now that i could pile it all up on a plate and devour it for the rest of my life without making a dent. denigrating the “quality” of “today’s art” is like ordering a three course meal at your favorite restaurant and complaining about a food truck on the other side of town
whiners really don't seem to understand that we are in a golden age of art right now. like yes the world's falling apart. yes disney sucks shit. but i went to a quilt show last month and my god, there were masterpieces there. there are so many good cartoons. the webcomics boom of the 00's let so many marginalized creators hop the fences of traditional comics publishing and put out absolutely incredible stuff. comics have done more interesting shit in the last 20 years than they have in the previous forty. it goes on and on. ceramics, marble, dollhouses, bonsai, calligraphy, graffiti, soap making, knitting, weaving, embroidery, origami, kites, theater, every kind of music. electroswing! there's lightpainting and augmented reality. makeup, cosplay, tattoos, body modification. there's videogames and board games.
we are living in an absolutely staggering explosion of art as cheap computers and easily accessible internet communities have let people share their skills and creativity. there's a lot to complain about when it comes to the internet, but not what it's done to art.
In 1965, there were roughly 100 new non-juvenile science fiction novels published, and that includes "well I guess you could call that science fiction if you wanted" like techno-spy thrillers and haunted-house romance stories.
(I'm not leaving out the juveniles because they're not real SF, but because they include a lot of very short books, including picture books and comics, so it gets hard to track down useful numbers.)
That was all. A dedicated person who had a lot of money, could read EVERYTHING published in the genre that year. (Sort of. If they could find them all. If their local bookstores had all the magazines and every new book.) You could definitely run out of science fiction and fantasy to read - you might know there was more available somewhere, but it wasn't near you.
Today, you cannot imagine running out of things to read, watch, play, make, or learn. Including free things. If there were NO NEW CONTENT CREATED, EVER, you could still spend your whole lifetime sorting through what's free on the internet today.
Sure there's a lot of lousy art, by whatever standards you judge art. But that doesn't mean art has "declined." There's just so much more of it that it's easy to get overwhelmed by the stuff you don't care for.
Highly recommend anyone looks up any local art walk near them or local art shows or any of that.
Lots of artists i've seen there are doing do fucking mutch, like everything.
Had an inspired idea and need someone with art skills to make it happen now
do u ever see a theory and ur like ‘nah the writers aren’t that clever’
Hope you don't mind @orc-sign-language but I think these tags are very important for people to understand why AAA games and their companies are under a lot of backlash and most games are copy-paste
Even more than "designed for maximum profit" - AAA games and mainstream publishing in general, are designed not to offend their largest potential income pool.
It's not that they don't recognize that queer people of color are a viable market. It's that, if they have to choose between "content that offends a lot of queer people of color" and "content that offends cis het white guys"... they will choose NOT to offend the cis het white guys.
They'd like to not offend anyone. So they wind up with a whole lot of bland, cliché writing, two-dimensional characters, boring stereotypical plotlines.
And when it comes to a crunch, and they decide to throw in something controversial or edgy to catch people's attention...
They know which group they're more willing to lose as potential buyers and reviewers.
i could fix him (the piece of media i just consumed that was poorly executed but had a good premise)
HUGE FUCKING SHOUTOUT TO ARTISTS WHO HAVE TROUBLE IMPROVING THEIR ART FOR WHATEVER REASON. ARTISTS WHO CAN BARELY MANAGE TO DRAW IN GENERAL BECAUSE OF DISABILITIES, ILLNESS, MENTAL ILLNESS, EXHAUSTION OR BEING TOO BUSY WITH OTHER AFFAIRS. YOU ARE STILL A GOOD ARTIST. HAVING THE WILL TO IMPROVE BUT NOT THE MEANS SUCKS. YOU'RE STILL DOING GREAT!
the thing about being in a fandom for a long time is you inevitably develop very intense opinions about things you know objectively are absolutely meaningless but nonetheless make you want to gnaw through drywall like a feral cat and there's just nothing you can do about that
