THE 2010s NATURAL HAIR DIVAS
these two videos on TikTok by @ginnyb33_ and @houseofdiva triggered memories of a specific type of woman in this era. When I was in primary school, I really loved reading blogs, specifically fashion blogs, and this specific look reminds me of the type of woman that was the creator and centre of these blogs that I held so close to my heart. I obsessed over their stylishness, artistic careers/interests, and experimental looks.
In primary school, I was not yet a natural hair girl nor was I planning on becoming one but, my mum definitely played a significant role in my perception of natural hair. I remember begging her to buy me a Little Mix doll and I wanted the Perrie doll she literally refused and said that she wasn’t gonna buy me any doll unless I got the Leigh-Anne doll with the Afro. I agreed, I remember receiving the doll and feeling so happy to have her because she was dressed similarly to the girls in these picture. I wish I appreciated her hair more, I feel like I would have if I also wore my natural hair at this time. But I’m thankful to my mummy for planting that seed.
