I woke up this morning excited by the idea of one day telling my future children that I helped elect the first woman president. I was thrilled that my first ever presidential vote was going to make history. Tonight, I am ashamed of my country. I am ashamed to live in this awful state. I am ashamed for the non-college white men that helped tear apart our country. I am ashamed of the fact that, one day (which will undoubtedly be further in the future after this evening) I will have to tell my future children that we failed them in the presidential election of 2016.

I regret all of the times that I didn't speak up about my views in this election. I regret holding my tongue when family and "friends" made bigoted comments in favor of a disgusting candidate. I refuse to accept Donald Trump as my leader. I refuse to let this man control me and my rights. I am scared to be a woman in America today. I am scared for my body and my rights. I feel no sense of agency. I feel no pride in the future of my country. I am so ashamed to be an American tonight.
