The Heroic Page: Zine Fest Houston 2016 Fundraiser
This year Zine Fest Houston will be spearheading its first ever fundraiser to help raise funds for Zine Fest Houston 2016: Year of the Ama-Zines!
With 72 vendors and over 1,000 attendees in 2015, the fest continues to grow apace. Since 2013 fest organizers have been diligent in seeking out, collaborating on, and creating fresh year-round programming in the form of workshops, pop-up tabling events, and unique zine and creator driven events like Comix Gauntlet and the annual ZFH compilation release.
Burgeoning collaboration with artists and groups around Houston have created rich opportunities for rigorous programming, which will require a rigorous budget to match. We expect 2016 to be our biggest year ever. We need your help to make it happen!

Young Latino Artists 20: WITHIN REACH
Guest Curator: Ricky Yanas
June 12, 2015 ā August 23, 2015
Opening Reception June 12, 2015
The Young Latino Artists (YLA) exhibition has historically provided Latina/o artists under the age of thirty-five with professional-level museum experience and exposure. Now in its twentieth year, the next YLA exhibition, Within Reach, will be guest curated by, visual artist, Ricky Yanas. YLA 20 will focus on two intersecting themes prominent in the works of nine artists: one of destruction/negation and one of re-interpretation/revitalization. Through processes of collage, archiving, and personal/environmental exploration these artists are beginning to break down the alienating messages produced by dominant corporate culture, finding new symbols and new mythologies in their own personal histories and the physical space around them. The title of the exhibition, Within Reach, refers not only to the proximity of these artists to their materials and their subjects, but also to a possible future free of corrosive mainstream influences and driven by trust in oneās own life experiences
Artists: Jaime Alvarez, Annmarie Avila, Tamara Bacerra Valdez, Grimaldi Baez, Isaiah Carrasco, Teresa Cervantes, Lauren Moya-Ford, Ashley Thomas, Hope Mora
