With the bug of in-game photos going blank being back once again and hitting more and more people, I figure it's a great time to spread the word about how to add your photos to the game as CC, which this won't happen to.

I've started doing this a while ago, due to also being scared of losing my photos otherwise, and it's actually super easy! So, I thought I'd share how I do it.

What you'll need:

Sims 4 Studio

Any photo editing program that lets you edit image layers (such as photoshop or gimp)

Required knowledge:

Basic knowledge of your chosen photo editing program (specifically how to cut and resize an image layer)

How to add mods aka CC to your game

This is a tutorial in 5 (or 6) steps, which I will put under the cut.

Step 0 (optional): Choose your frame in game

I personally like to open up buy mode in game and check out the different frames that are available. This is not technically necessary, but it's really useful to get an idea of how big the frame will be.

For this, I'm using this painting of sunflowers because it matches the aesthetic I'm going for. It's the right format of what I'm looking for, and it's not too big or too small.

Tip: I think it's better to choose a frame that's a bit bigger than what you're looking for than one that's too small. You can always shrink a bigger object using the "[" key (might be different on other systems or keyboards), while still having a bigger texture space for a higher quality image.

Step 1: Create the object using Sims 4 Studio

Once you have Sims 4 Studio installed, just open it, and select the "Object" button I have circled here. You can keep the "Standalone Recolor" option selected.

After that, select the category to make it easier to find your frame. The frame I'm using (like most picture frames) is in the painting category, so I select "Decorative" and then "Painting". Then, I just scroll a bit, until I find the frame I want to use.

Just select the object and press "Next". You will have to enter a name for your package file, which can be whatever you want. I recommend not using symbols other than letters, numbers and "_" because that can slow your game down.

Step 2: Export your frame texture

Now, the painting will be opened for you to edit. You can change the name, description and price in the "Catalog" tab, if you want.

Then, just go to the "Texture" tab, and press the green "Export" button in the "Texture" section of that tab.

This will save the image you see on the right, which is the texture we will be editing. Save it with whatever name you want.

At this point, you won't need to save any changes to the package file. I would recommend just leaving the program open for now, so you can easily go back to it.

Step 3: Edit your texture

Open up your editing program. For this example, I will be using Photoshop. There, just open the following two images: The frame texture we exported in step 2, and the photo you want to add to it. I will be referring to them as "frame" and "photo" for this. In my case, I've already edited the photo beforehand, but that's completely optional.

I think the easiest way to transfer your photo to the frame is the following. With both images open and visible, and the photo window selected, just move the only currently available layer from the photo to the frame, as shown above. There might be other ways, but this is how I do it.

Once you have the photo transferred to the frame, you will need to resize and cut it to fit into the frame, where the original painting used to be.

As you can see, it now fits perfectly into the frame. Once you're happy with the result, you can save the whole thing as a PNG file. Again, the name for this is your choice and doesn't really matter.

Step 4: Import your edited texture

With the same package file opened in S4S as before, press the blue "Import" button underneath the "Export" button from earlier.

That's all you really need to do in this case. If you're happy with how everything looks, just press "Save".

Step 5: Add the file to your game

Once you've saved the package file, just move it to your Mods folder. You can put it into your own sub-folder or just directly into the main Mods folder.

Then, just open the game, find the picture in buy mode and place it wherever you like.

There we have it. I've purposely selected a bigger painting than I need in this case and sized it down using the "[" key, so it fits neatly where I want it.

And that's all!

I hope this tutorial is useful for some people out there who also get annoyed by the constant photo bugs or who are just interested in adding their own custom photos into their game.

You can just add the photos taken by your sims, which will appear in your Screenshots folder, or you can get creative and edit any other screenshots like I did here. The choice is yours!

Plus, the fact that the photos will just be available in buy mode means you can have as many copies as you want in any of your households!
