A little poll on a Not-So-Little Issue.

Okayyy so. While re-reading the IF (yes, I do that sometimes), I noticed a few inconsistencies and things I kinda overlooked during the first draft frenzy. So, I need your input on a few story decisions. Let’s break it down:

MC’s Family & The Treason Plotline

If MC’s father was accused of treason, why is the family still casually living in the capital? Near the palace, even?? Realistically, they’d probably be under house arrest or exiled to some remote estate far from the royal inner circle.

So… should I keep things as they are or do a quick edit to add realism, maybe a move to a secluded residence under constant surveillance? The fix wouldn’t take too long, just tweaking some early scenes.

Yeon & The Bathing Scene

Yeon helping MC bathe… is cute. Until you realise Yeon could be the opposite gender. Which, in a royal court setting, SCANDALOUS. Forbidden.

So here are the options:

Option 1: Yeon is always the same gender as the MC. They remain your personal servant.

Option 2: Yeon’s gender is still selectable, BUT if they’re not the same gender as MC, someone else (a new servant that was originally supposed to be introduced in Chapter 2) takes over the personal attendant role. Yeon still exists, just not as your personal servant.

The Friends

I introduced MC’s friends pretty fast. Too fast, honestly. Do you think I should take more time and build up their introductions properly, with more scene-setting and interactions? Would you prefer a slower burn to the friendships?

MC’s Backstory POV

Should MC’s backstory be told in MC’s POV, or should I keep it as-is from Seung Ah’s POV?

Oh, thank goodness you're not gone! I was worried when I couldn't find your account amongst the blog I follow. The demo has been rotating in my mind like a rotisserie chicken, you see, so the fact that there's a backup is reassuring.

Three things that I keep thinking about:

1. House Han seems to be pretty low-key (or at least that's the impression I get from Lord Seok despite his important rank) so the fact his eldest two children have connections that may be able to reach into the imperial harem (Seung-ah), the imperial examinations and the envoys at China (MC) is pleasantly surprising and delightful to me. Plus, the childhood friends noting in their letters that MC is more ambitious/dangerous than it seems at first sight... Oh, the court won't know what hit them. I can't wait to see it.

2. Is it public knowledge that the Emperor asked for MC by name? (Or even, that Lord Han ''made a mistake'' that required his second child to be sent to the palace as concubine/hostage?) Given how unhinged their childhood friends seem in their letters, I wonder how they reacted to the news 👀

3. This question is more about stats than story-wise: what's the difference between labels like ''seung'' and ''seung_mc'' for the relationship stats?

First of all I'm so, so sorry for the delay in responding to this! Thank you for being so patient (and for calling my demo a rotisserie chicken… my brain will never be the same again). Anyway, onto your questions:

1. House Han's reputation

Ohhh no. House Han is not low-key. At all. Lord Seok just knows how to traverse the court without screaming about it, he’s got that quietly terrifying dad energy, ya know?

It’s very much expected that his children would have solid connections, even if not all of them were deliberate. Seung-ah’s connection to the harem is more subtle and somewhat hush-hush (👀), but MC's links to the envoys and exams? Totally unplanned for. A very fun accident that no one in the Han family was prepared for, but now that it's happened? Oh well.

2. Is it public knowledge that MC was requested?

Short answer: nope. It’s not public knowledge that Lord Han was accused of treason or that the Emperor personally asked for MC. That kind of scandal would stir up major unrest among the lower classes, distrust in the imperial court is not something you want floating around during fragile times.

Buuut… the higher-ups? Oh, they definitely know. And so do certain well-informed nobles and advisors. As for the childhood friends? Let’s just say, their reactions were... dramatic. (More on that later 😌)

3. Relationship stats: what’s up with the labels?

Good question! Here's the breakdown:

seung — This is your (MC’s) relationship with Seung-ah. So basically: how you feel about them.

seung_mc — This one is Seung-ah’s opinion of MC. How much they trust/like/respect you. 👀

Same system applies to other characters too! It helps keep the dynamic more nuanced and allows for more delicious tension and betrayal if things ever go sideways. 😇
